The Bottom Line:
This is another great brush from Bare Escentuals. Any woman should be able to find several uses for this brush.
It wasn't that long ago that I couldn't be convinced that good makeup brushes are essential. Then I started buying the makeup kits that Bare Escentuals puts together and sells on QVC or at Sephora. These kits always contain at least one brush, and sometimes two or more. At first, I set them aside and didn't use them because I thought that either the sponge-tipped applicators I was using for eyeshadow were OK, or the cheap Avon brushes I was using were good enough. And then I started to use some of the Bare Escentuals brushes. Oh yeah....where have some of these brushes BEEN all my life??? The latest brush I have had a lot of good luck with is this Bare Escentuals Heavenly Face Brush.
Product Details:
The Bare Escentuals Heavenly Face Brush is a goat hair brush that is used for applying powdered cosmetics to the face. Bare Escentuals recommends it mainly for their face colors, such as Warmth, Clear Radiance and Glee.
This dense, super-soft brush measures about 5.75" long. The densely-packed bristles are just over 1" long. The handle, while it looks heavy, is lightweight and is made from plastic and some sort of silver, chromey metal.
From Sephora.com: This supremely plush, soft, goat hair brush floats over your complexion like the finest silk, for a feather light application of color.
My Experience:
This is not my first Bare Escentuals brush, and it most definitely will not be my last. I have used several of their other brushes, as well as brushes from Sephora, Estee Lauder and Trish McEvoy. I really like Bare Escentuals brushes because they are high quality and last a very long time.
You would think that using a brush with densely-packed bristles like this would make for heavier application of your powdered cosmetics. This is not the case at all. In fact, it gives you about half of the coverage and application of a brush such as Bare Escentuals' Kabuki Brush.
The way to use this brush is to put a bit of your powdered cosmetics (as I stated above, these would be products like Glee, Gossamer, Warmth, Clear Radiance, etc.) in their tub's lid (most of these products come in small "tubs"), swirl the Heavenly Face Brush into the minerals and then apply to your face, you will get a softer look. For example, if I'm applying Warmth, but I want to apply it very lightly, I won't use a bronzer brush because that type of brush applies the product too heavily. This is because less densely-packed bristles hide more of the powdered cosmetics in between the bristles and then transfer it to your face. Using the Bare Escentuals Heavenly Face Brush allows for very light application of any powdered cosmetics. This is particularly helpful if you want just a touch of color from one of Bare Escentuals' face colors, or any brand of bronzer.
This brush is also particularly helpful if you have very little experience applying these types of products. Getting practice with a brush that has a light touch is a lot less frustrating than using a cheaper brush that will make you look like a clown because too much color was applied to your face. That's what makes this brush so versatile - you can use it to get a touch of color, or use it to layer two different products, or two layers of one product. I definitely recommend this brush and think that any woman would love using it.
This brush has stayed in good shape despite my using it a lot. The bristles aren't "smashed down" like the bristles on a cheaper brush would be by now. It's a bit more "spread out" than it was when it was brand new, but this is minimal compared to so many other cheaper brushes.
One thing that I need to mention is that this brush sheds a bit, especially at first. Mine lost at least 10 bristles a day for the first couple of months that I used it, but that has slowed to about two bristles per day that I use it. Despite losing what seems like hundreds of bristles, this brush is still dense and doesn't look like it's lost that many bristles.
Price and Purchasing Information:
The Bare Escentuals Heavenly Face Brush costs $30 if purchased alone. It can be purchased at Sephora.com and at Sephora brick and mortar stores. However, I found mine in one of the kits purchased from QVC. I can't find that particular kit at QVC.com or Sephora.com, but it can be found in the three-item Bare Escentuals Pink Passion kit at Sephora.com for $40.
