Barbie movies: well, it could be worse
(Yes, it's been seven years since I've written or posted a review. But I just couldn't stand the plethora of Barbie movies in my house and not being able to pick at them in a public forum. I may even be moved to do a series.)
The more I see "The Nutcracker" performed as a...

Never Thought I'd Have This In My House!
You know they say that you will get paid back for everything you did while you were young through your children? Enter = "Barbie in the Nutcracker"
I never got into Barbie. My daughter is a Barbie FREAK!! and this video only fuels her obsession. It's not your typical Nutcracker story but...

Great for girls. Painful for Tchaikowsky fans.
I keep telling myself, ?Self, keep this in perspective.?
For example, was ?Barbie in the Nutcracker? produced to win awards? No. Okay, maybe cross-promotion awards ? but nothing like an Oscar. Heck, it wasn?t even designed to go to the movie theatres.
It?s sole purpose, is to...

"Mommy I don't want to watch it anymore"
This is what my 5 year old Barbie, ballet fan said over and over again. Smart cookie. I don't blame her. There was really nothing spectacular about this movie, save for the cool scene between Barbie and her sister Kelly in the beginning at the dance studio.
I expected too much with this...

A new twist on the Nutcracker
I'm in the local toy store with my mother, who thinks it's her right to spoil my kids . We are headed for check-out and I'm thinking, ok, we are getting out of here with only a mild spoiling, when my mother spots the movie Barbie in the Nutcracker. I beg my mother to pass it by. She yells to my... Read full review »
NOW I Get It!
When I was a child, my mother took me to see "The Nutcracker" when the local professional ballet company performed it. I didn't get it. I knew it was all about some girl and the nutcracker and a lot of fanciful characters from another world, but beyond that, I was stumped. So I was bored. Sure, the... Read full review »
"Mom, it's time for our daily viewing of 'Barbie Nutcracker'!"
I was NOT going to buy this video. Although my 2- and 4-year-old daughters LOVE Barbie, I am still fighting the whole tiny waist, perfect hair thing. I was not going to perpetuate it by buying this commercialized version of the ballet that I loved!
BUT ... after renting it from the video...

Now the kids want ballet lessons.
Barbie and the Nutcracker were very cute characters. During the course of the movie Barbie receives a nutcracker as a Christmas present from her jet setting aunt. During the night when the magic comes to life she tries to defend the nutcracker from an evil rat king who puts a spell on her and makes... Read full review »
Barbie in the Nutcracker.
Well personally I thought this movie was not that bad. After a couple years of "I wanna watch Barney!" over and over again, I was pleased when my daughter wanted to watch this movie. It may not be the traditional Nutcracker story, but to be honest I was glad that it wasn't. I saw the ballet and... Read full review »

This modern adaptation of the holiday classic casts Barbie in two roles, Clara and the Sugarplum Princess, as she embarks on a musical fantasy adventure for girls of all ages. Barbie in Nutcracker [VHS]
Look who became a star. Barbie comes to life in this computer- animated Christmas tale that quite naturally takes the longtime favorite doll into a new realm. The plot is a slight variation on the traditional ballet based on Tchaikovsky's music. Instead of being in an open-ended dream, Barbie and her escort, the Nutcracker (soon to be Ken, natch), are on an adventurous quest. Along the way there are more creatures and derring-do than in the original. The sole known voice talent, Tim Curry, has a good old time as the Mouse King, and the animated dancing is gracefully adapted from New York City Ballet choreography. A few clever characters, bright animation, and wonderful music should entrance any Barbie fans ages 3 to 9. The 78-minute feature debuted on video shortly before playing on CBS in 2001. --Doug Thomas
