It's a fact of life that as the years of our lives go by, we tend to fixate time on music, movies, beers (well I do), and basically anything that's important to us. Scientifically, I suppose it's a function of how the brain associates events, but for most of us I suppose it can be described simply... Read full review »

Here's an entry in Captain D's The Good Movies Epi Guide 2 write-off: http://www.epinions.com/content_5245804676.

The ten highest grossing movies of 1986 included Aliens and Ferris Bueller's Day Off, but they didn't even make the top five. Top Gun was number one, of course, with Crocodile... Read full review »

Pros Great cast including Robert Downey Jr., Rodney Dangerfield and Sally Kellerman.
Cons Lacking a undefinable something which makes it worth seeing again.
Recommended it? No

During the 80's a lot of great movies came out. This was not one of them. I really neither like or dislike this movie I just think it lacks something. Maybe I judge it too much on the quality of the other movies of that decade.

Some of the good reasons to watch this movie are the cast... Read full review »

Back to School starring Rodney Dangerfield is absolutely hysterical. The plot takes a regular guy, Thornton Melon (played by Rodney Dangerfield), who goes back to college to prove something to his son who wants to drop out.

The entire story with Thornton Melon is one of a regular guy... Read full review »

Pros fun romp, Dangerfield, Kinnison
Cons It's not art, people

I love cheesy comedies from the 80?s. Sure, they have to have something special, some sort of chemistry that makes the movie ?work?, but as a rule of thumb, I dig plopping in front of the tube to watch them repeatedly. Before I continue, I think it?s only fair that I address a very valid complaint... Read full review »

Alas, Rodney Dangerfield still gets no respect. Recently, the comic was denied membership to the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, allegedly on the basis of his profane turn as an abusive father in Natural Born Killers. (Gee, I thought range and talent would be two guarantees of an... Read full review »

Hory Teen Drama

Pros A young Terry Farrell.
Cons Nothing to set it aprt from any other teen drama.
Recommended it? Yes

This movie is funny in some senses when it shouldn't really be. I found it very amusing to see a younger version of the DS9 Sex Goddess Terry Farell in the film, however many of the intended jokes are fairly crude
and need at least a fairly silly mind to 'get'.

As a traditional story... Read full review »

Back to School [VHS]

In the mid-1980s, standup comic Rodney Dangerfield underwent a renewed wave of popularity, finding a surprisingly enthusiastic baby-boomer audience. What else to do but make a movie that shows off Dangerfield's alternately knowing and boorish humor? This may not be on the AFI list of great films, but it delivers laughs aplenty in its story of a rough-edged tycoon who made his fortune in clothes for the stout and tall and decides to attend college in order to be closer to his son (Keith Gordon). There's not much plot, but lots of room for Dangerfield's one-line riffs. The goggle-eyed comic veteran displays surprising charm, enough to make his romance with professor Sally Kellerman believable. Look for cameos by late comedian Sam Kinison and author Kurt Vonnegut Jr. --Marshall Fine
