The Bottom Line:
It depends on the type of cleanup you go with.
I bought this blender on sale and was pleased. The smoothie maker seemed like a dream made true, as I went from the greens-a-day to a smoothie-a-day. I was pleased with myself for so greedily making a purchase that was in the health conscious department. Once home, I immediately began tinkering with everything delightfully. I found that everything was indeed separable as should be and could be reattached (+1).
The dilema began after my first mess. I made my first bannana and strawberry yogurt smoothie and it was not bad (honestly needed sugar). However, I came back to test try my second smoothie and noticed it had started leaking everywhere. The entire conter was a smoothie swamp. I thought maybe I got a defective one, but when you pull out the pitcher part you'll notice a small hole designed into the base part. I was a little shocked, actually, and couldn't make much sense out of the situation (-1).
Next was the dish washing. Unless you have a dishwasher, cleanup is next to impossible. I found out the hard way that you will want to wash everything immediately after each use (-1). It is too hard to clean the removable spout, pitcher with its groves and non-sharp blades (+1) adequately without soaking for an hour or two. It's a real disappointment for the hand washers out there.
The smoothie maker maybe still pleasing, but after a little inspecting you slowly find problems. I'm still in appliance shock of rather this is even a good appliance or not. As for safety, one thing I hated right away was the spout. It has a nasty snap from close to open that is so quick and viscious that it can take someone's skin apart immediately.
It has a good gimmick, but this one is on the bottom side for us "hand" washers. Everything looked like a good idea at first, but once placed into motion the smoothie maker comes out fair.
