Travels Easily All Over The House - Without Waking The Baby! Baby Trend Traveller

Pros Wheels, Size (it gets through doorways!), cushy bottom
Cons Size (smaller than most - not great for play), Mattress is non-removable
Recommended it? Yes
The Bottom Line:  Decent playpen, but has a few problems. Good for traveling and I love those wheels!
During a recent trip to visit my parents, my mom borrowed the Baby Trend - Trend Traveller for my 6 month old daughter to sleep in. While it was nothing spectacular, I was generally pleased with the product. We use an older Graco Pack and Play at home, so my observations come mainly from a comparison of the products.

Instead of fully collapsing and fitting into a neat rectangular bag, like the Graco, the Baby Trend basically has collapsible sides, and then folds in the middle for semi-flat storage or travel. My mom and I had a difficult time figuring out how to collapse, then reassemble it, but we also didn't have the directions. However, my engineer father and mechanically inclined husband, didn't have any trouble figuring out to work the thing. The Graco would also be difficult to figure out if you didn't know what you were doing, or didn't have any practice at it.

The Baby Trend, at 31 x 41, is noticeable smaller when assembled than our Graco. While it was perfect for sleeping, I do prefer our Graco for when my daughter spends playtime in the playpen. The upside of Baby Trend's size, was that it easily fit through doorways, for easy movement from room to room. With our Graco, we have to leave it basically in one place one it is assembled. It's convenience for travel would probably depend upon the space you have to pack in. Generally this one seems like it would take up less room in the trunk that the Graco.

The Baby Trend has mesh on all four sides, as well as a toy bag on one end. This was a great place to stash blankets, burp rags, the baby's pajamas and toys. It also has a flap on one of the long sides which folds down to darken the playpen. Our Graco has these on all four sides, which come in handy to help the baby get to sleep when we are away from home.

My favorite feature of the Baby Trend was the wheels on one end which make it a breeze to roll from place to place. The seemed to roll very easily and I even moved it once while the baby was sleeping without waking her up!

My least favorite features of the Baby Trend were the material it was made out of, and the design of the bottom. Like most portable playpens (Graco included), it is made of a parachute type material. While the fabric is really durable, it is also incredibly noisy and scratchy! This problem necessitated the need to put something softer at the bottom of the crib, which brings me the second big drawback. The bottom of the playpen is not removable, so it is difficult to cover with a blanket and tuck it in around the edges. It does come with it's own specially fitted bottom sheet which is easily taken on and off the bottom. However, this sheet was also scratchy. The bottom is, however, quite cushy and padded.

In general, the Baby Trend is quite acceptable for travel and for sleeping, but I still prefer my bigger Graco Pack and Play for home use. I am familiar with many Baby Trend products and have found them to be innovative and durable, and the Baby Trend - Trend Traveller is not an exception.
