The Bottom Line:
This high chair is fantastic and has every single thing you could ever want or need including a reasonable price!
The Baby Trend was the second and the last high chair I will ever own. I bought the Peg Perego high chair that everyone loves as I just "had" to have an attractive high chair in my newly remodeled kitchen. I ran right out and bought the Peg Perego Prima Pappa Roller with white "leather" after reading about it's popularity. I got it home and was just sick at how the thing was constructed. It was a huge piece of plastic that over time began to fall apart. The hard, narrow "leather" seat began to deteriorate over time as it was wiped down and the plastic wheels were scratching my new hard wood floors. Peg Perego must be Italian for "over priced piece of plastic"! For over $200 I would expect far, far, more. The tray is too far away from the baby and the seat always felt like it did not want to stay put in the upright position. It felt like it would eventually stop clicking shut in the upright position and start falling backwards. You could practically "feel" the plastic parts "giving out" on the inside over time. I was so disgusted with that high chair I eventually decided to go to Babies R Us and buy any other high chair I could find.
They had just started carrying these new Baby Trend High Chairs and once I saw it and looked it over, I was in love! First things first.....it was less than HALF ($89) the price of the Peg Perego and yet it has every bell and whistle Peg Perego offers. (This was a brand spankin' new item when I was in the store so I would imagine that after they have been out for a little while you could even find them on sale and they would be even cheaper!) It was everything the Peg Perego claimed to be and more. It is a direct knock off of Peg Perego but better, oh so much better!! Baby Trends does every single thing Peg Perego high chairs do. It looks quite nice in my Italian Tuscan styled kitchen too. Very attractive for anyone who does not want to look at baby print fabrics or garish colors. The chair has addittional padding beneath the extra thick seat cover. It is so soft, fluffy and comfortable that when my son falls asleep in it I am almost envious! The tray "wraps" around him so far less food falls into his lap. It moves up, and down and folds flat for storage. The tray hangs on the back and comes off with one hand. You can roll it easily up to your table, hang the tray on the back and the baby can eat at the table with everyone else in the family. It holds 40 pounds not the 35 pounds Peg Perego claims theirs holds. The seat reclines for smaller babies that take bottles or even want to sleep. (as cushy as that seat is, your baby will sleep....like a baby!) It has wheels that can be taken off if you want to keep it stationary. Lock brakes on every wheel to keep it from moving. A foot rest that reclines with the seat. The whole thing is also much sturdier than that famous Italian high chair. It does not have the middle bar on the base that the Peg Perego's have so it does not drag and scratch your floors. It too has the safety bar between the legs and also the 5 point safety harness. It has all of the good points of the Peg Perego and none of the bad. You can wipe the seat cover off with a damp cloth (the cloth seems to have a serious scotch guard on it so it wipes very well) or the cover can practically be taken off with one hand and tossed into the wash. You can put it back on in 5 seconds. It is even reversible. You get a check print on one side and a solid on the other. The Peg Perego covers are very hard to get off and on some models do not come off at all. Baby Trend's cloth seat cover is richer and nicer looking than the so called "leather" on Peg Perego's. I have found nothing at all wrong with this chair and I am so impressed that I ran to this site just so I could leave a glowing report in hopes of keeping other folks out there like me from paying far too much for a high chair. There is no reason to buy any other high chair. This is the very best one available. Stylish, high quality, fully functional and best of all very well priced indeed!
The moral to the story is that sometimes you don't get what you pay for....and sometimes you can actually get more!
