Pros very professional looking items made with this
Cons none that I know of

For years I had wanted a serger. A friend of mine had one and we did a lot of sewing at her house using her serger. It took me a very long time to justify the cost! About 10 years ago I took the plunge and bought my Baby Lock serger - Model BL4-838. It has the 4-3-2 thread overlock.

We are a farm family, and my wife sews a lot of our clothes. She's really exited about her latest addition, an Imagine Serger by Baby Lock. She says the biggest problem is, now everybody wants to use the serger, and she doesn't get a chance. Here's what led to this purchase:
Several years ago... Read full review »

When starting my own WAHM business, I found I needed a serger. I had never used one before but I thought, ?it is a fancy sewing machine, how hard could it be??
I bought one from someone online and quickly found the answer to that question. It can be really hard. That serger was a nightmare... Read full review »

I am a stay at home mom, who sews for her family. I taught myself how to sew a few years ago, using books, and the internet. I wanted the items I made to look like bettermade clothes (baby gap/old navy), and found a great timesaver and help, a serger.

Sergers can be used to finish edges,... Read full review »

Pros Simple to use with spectacular results.
Cons There aren't any.

I have worked in retail, selling sewing machines and sergers of all brands. Being extemely familiar with most of the popular machines on the market, I have to tell you that when it comes to sergers this "baby" is the best! I don't know how they did it, but Babylock made one heck of an amazing... Read full review »

Serge In Style

Pros Auto-threading and tension
Cons None

As my first and only serger, the Baby Lock Imagine opened up a whole new world of sewing ease for me. A gift from my mother (the professional seamstress) I wasn't sure I would use it all that much. Now I don't know how I did anything without it. After looking around at older (and cheaper) models,... Read full review »

Cons none so far

I bought this serger three months after purchasing another brand of serger. When I saw this one in action I just knew I had to own my own. The stitch quality is the best I've ever seen. It is so easy to thread you wouldn't believe it. There are very few adjustments on it so tensions are not a... Read full review »

Serger Simplicity

Cons Lack of seam guides

I am a Family and Consumer Sciences teacher in a middle school, teaching 7th and 8th graders. Therefore, I knew I needed a serger that was simple to thread and operate. The Baby Lock Imagine is exactly that! The unit is self-threading; it couldn't be any easier. And, with no tension control... Read full review »

Great serger - threading - eh?

bylbkeller Sep 25, 2007
3 Helpfuls 4 Helpfuls Was this review helpful?
Pros Doesn't matter what order you thread the serger.
Cons Jet air threading is tempermental sometimes. But tolerable.
Recommended it? Yes

I love my Baby Lock Imagine - truly I do. The jet air threading is wonderful - most of the time. When it works, it works great. Unfortunately it takes some playing and tweaking with how much thread has been fed into the machine to get it to thread with the push of the lever. And unfortunately you... Read full review »

To Thine Own Self Be True, or you could be sorry you bought it!

byntbs Jan 9, 2005

Pros It has a knife lock, rarely breaks threads, has a convenient tool storage compartment.
Cons When the automatic tension control fails, you must take it to the shop for adjustment.
Recommended it? No

It was in 1988 that I got my first serger - a Baby Lock. Like most sergers of those days, it had more than occasional 'bad hair days' during which it would perversely refuse to stitch properly. Countless hours were spent tearing my own hair out!!! But, oh what a magnificent stitch pattern it had,... Read full review »
