The Bottom Line:
Don't buy it - buy the original model or a used one.
We had an Original Baby Bjorn when my first daughter was born four years ago. It was a hand-me-down and worked great - we absolutely loved it. Well, I had to return it to its owner, and so we had to buy a new one for our second baby. We went with the $100-plus Active (Red and Black) and it was a huge waste of money. Many reviewers have mentioned the front flap on this thing, which simply will not stay down. It worked great for when my baby was rear-facing but now that she is older and forward facing, the flap just will not stay down and she gets very upset, understandably, since she can't breathe very well with a big piece of fabric in her face. When you've spent $100 on this and it has this major defect, it's a real problem! So although I had the older version of the bjorn that I absolutely loved, I can't recommend the Active model to anyone until they fix this problem. Don't you just have to wonder how this slipped by the product testers, or don't they test stuff??? I have called/emailed about it several times and each person I have spoken with claims not to be aware of this problem. THAT in and of itself is problematic - wonder how long it will take to redesign this thing? They sent me a replacement front piece, which was nice, but had the same exact design flaw. The times we have used it we have resorted to using a chip-clip to try to keep the flap down - klassy. I would sew it down if I were more handy with that sort of thing. Other than this HUGE problem, the bjorn is well-constructed and as comfortable as it could be, although your back will no doubt ache after anything longer than an hour.
