2002 BMW X5

The X5 is now available in three models: 3.0i, 4.4i, and the new 4.6is. The new 4.6L V-8 engine boasts 340 horsepower and 350 lb-ft torque. The 4.6is features 20-inch cast alloy wheels, xenon headlights, park distance control, eight-way power seats, and heated front and rear seats. All X5 models are equipped traction control, dynamic brake control, and hill descent control, which reduces the vehicles speed when driving down hills in rough terrain. The 3.0i and 4.4i offer an optional Sport Package, a Cold Weather Package, a Rear Climate Package, and a Premium Package. The Premium Package features a power moonroof, six-way power passenger seat, adjustable rear seatback, rain sensing wipers, and an on-board computer.

Expensive and many service issues

Pros Good handling, smooth ride, AWD, comfortable interior, nice styling
Cons unreliable, costly to repair, poor dealer service.
Recommended it? No

We have owned this BMW since it was brand new and cared for it well.  All regular service at the BMW dealership, garage kept, and driven under normal conditions.  Nonetheless, this car has proven itself to be painful.  But, to be fair, I'll start with the good things.

Pros A joy to drive. Excellent fit and finish.
Cons no 7-passenger seating, occasional electrical gremlins

After having this car for a little over a year I wanted to provide my impressions.

I still think it's a great car; however, I do plan on bringing it back to the dealer after the lease has ended and maybe get an MDX.

Pros Amazing ride, 24 MPG Highway, Cold AC
Cons None really
Recommended it? Yes

This is an amazing vehicle. The wife has the 3.0 and I never worry about her safety in it. It accelerates like a 3 series, even the 3.0 engine. It gets close to 24 miles the gallon on the highway, 18 in the city, and it rides so comfortably, I have to forget I am not in my 5 Series.
