Schlamozzel here with another Slumlord Brand (TM) review of a product that will likely change the way American society goes over the edge. Let us all "doven" and pay homage to the BIC America (R) Atlantis(Tm) Retractable Ballpoint Pens Medium Point 1.0 Mm Clear Barrel Black Ink 12 Pack.
If you're like me (inasmuch as considering general mental status) you probably go absolutely BONKERS when someone sits and repeatedly does that annoying cLiCKy-KlaCkY cLiCKy-KlaCkY cLiCKy-KlaCkY cLiCKy-KlaCkY with their retractable ballpoint pen without saying a word. It's enough to drive any borderline psychotic (not the least of which is my FUTURE ex-wife) up on a rooftop with intentions of unspeakable mass carnage. So I believe with this in mind, engineers at "Bic" set out to quash the hysteria. The end-product being this BIC America (R) Atlantis(Tm) Retractable Ballpoint Pens Medium Point 1.0 Mm Clear Barrel Black Ink 12 Pack
The Basics
This BIC America (R) Atlantis(Tm) Retractable Ballpoint Pens Medium Point 1.0 Mm Clear Barrel Black Ink 12 Pack is indeed the "better mouse trap" in that although the principle of "advance / retract" remains the same, the device "actuator" is of a different design. There still remains a "coil spring" on the ink well shaft. And the amount of ink in the well remains consistent with it's predecessors. The main body of the pen is composed of "rigid" clear plastic. The lower "finger section" has a comfortable finger area comprised of some kind of rubber. The upper section has the customary "nerd-pak" pocket clip which works well inside a "breast pocket" of a mens dress jacket. (more on that later)
But the main difference is the "delta shaped" actuator with tube retaining "cuff". (Like a SILENCER almost)
How Well This Product Works / My Experiences
I have found that the BIC America (R) Atlantis(Tm) Retractable Ballpoint Pens Medium Point 1.0 Mm Clear Barrel Black Ink 12 Pack writes very well. there are few instances where I wind up "smudging" ink. See, I'm a LEFTY... ans we tend to drag our hands over the work we write. Thereby causing the ink to smudge or become blotchy if excess gets on our skin and we keep "dragging" as we write.
On "deploying and retrieving" the writing stylus one notices a much smoother action of the pens "plunger". Where earlier style pens had a definitive "herky-jerky", this BIC America (R) Atlantis(Tm) Retractable Ballpoint Pens Medium Point 1.0 Mm Clear Barrel Black Ink 12 Pack writing instrument drastically reduces that sensation. I suspect this is what also serves to reduce the annoying noise.
The rubberized finger holding area is form fitted and non-slip grip style. The vast remainder of the clear plastic pen body gives the user something to look at to see how the ink supply is doing. This pen is light and nice enough to look at.
As stated before, the pocket clip works well inside a mens dress coat pocket. However, if simply placed in a breast pocket of a dress shirt it will not hold well. Just like any ordinary pen.
Final Thoughts
I have no real "issues" with the BIC America (R) Atlantis(Tm) Retractable Ballpoint Pens Medium Point 1.0 Mm Clear Barrel Black Ink 12 Pack. They do a very nice job writing, even with my penmanship. The noise reduction is indeed appreciated and the costs are not astronomical. In short, I'm a happy camper!
