The Bottom Line:
I probably got a bum machine, but I'm going back to a Krups
I had a Krups blade grinder that i purchased for maybe 18 dollars back in the late 90's. Worked just fine for 8 or 9 years. last week (first of October) the krups quit.
off i strolled to Target to replace it. Well, they didn't have a Krups, and I was in a bit of a rush to replace it so that i would have fresh coffee on Monday morning. So, I was faced with a decision to buy something or wait until I knew I could get a Krups.
I have a good palette, having been a professional wine taster in an earlier career, but I'm not a snob; the 20 dollar krups works fine for my coffee needs.
I broke down and went with this kitchen aid. My mixer and food processor are both great, how bad could a bean grinder be?
Plenty.
I used it exactly three times. The three times that it did function, the beans were ground quickly and evenly. the grinder was very loud.
In fact after the second time, I smelled smoke, but thought maybe it being new there was some residual oil or something. One more grind was all I got.
Tomorrow it's off to Bed and bath to go back to my Krups that I know will give me some good solid work for the years to come.
