The Bottom Line:
Great product to help keep bacteria away from you children.
If you have read some of my most recent reviews, you would realize I have a newly born baby. I have been reviewing items I have been using on a day-to-day basis. This time I am reviewing the Avent Express Microwave Steam Sterilizer.
You know how parents get with their children. Everything must be super squeaky clean and very bacteria-free, and then some. And you know first time parents take that to the extreme. Well, I fall into the first time parent roll. So getting a bottle sterilizer was a must for us. So, like stated in other reviews, we walked into our local Babies R Us and scanned the Avent Express Microwave Steam Sterilizer into our registry. Come baby shower day, we opened the Steam Sterilizer gift, twice. We got home, returned the second sterilizer, and learned how the first was to be used.
When you take the Avent Express Microwave Steam Sterilizer out of the box, it is assembled. There is nothing you have to do, which as a first time dad, I loved! The sterilizer comes as 3 pieces. You have the white base, inside blue bottle rack, and clear outer lid. The sterilizer also came with 2 extra bottles, which I guess is nice, but we already have all the bottles we can deal with. The Avent Express Microwave Steam Sterilizer is made out of plastic and is about 1 foot in diameter, while being about 8 inches high.
The process is very easy, even a woman could do it. (Sorry!). You first remove the lid and rack from the sterilizer and fill it with 7 oz of water. Place the bottle rack back into the sterilizer and insert your bottles, nipples, and lids. Place the lid on top and snap it into place. Next, place the sterilizer into the microwave, and set the time based on your microwave wattage. Once time is up, remove the sterilizer from the microwave. Note of caution, the plastic will be a little warm, but the steam is what will get you. Just carefully unsnap the lid, and rotate it a few degrees, to keep a small vent for the steam to get out. Once all the dangerously hot steam is gone, the bottles are good to go. They are considered sterile for 24 hours.
The rack inside the Avent Express Microwave Steam Sterilizer holds 6 bottles, nipples, and lids. There are raised edges to help you place the bottles into the sterilizer. There will be some cramping with larger bottles, but they all will fit, one way or another. There is a triangle of circles around the center, which we use for the nipples and lids.
Overall, this is a no excitement, but very beneficial item. It will kill any germs on the bottles, if used correctly. This is a good thing to do, especially for new born babies. Make sure your hands are clean when you touch the bottles and nipples, or you would have wasted the entire process.
