The Bottom Line:
I strongly recommend this product. It makes keeping baby bottles clean and sterilized a breeze.
I have found this steam sterilizer to be the easiest and most convenient way to sterilize bottles. As a first time mom, there were products I thought I'd need that I have never used, and products that I never anticipated I'd need that I have found invaluable. This is one of the latter. Like other reviewers, I too tried other methods of sterilizing baby bottles, and found them to be cumbersome, labor intensive and/or inefficient. I tried the dishwasher, but ruined several bottle parts when they fell through the racks and landed on the heating coils used for the drying cycle. (I never tried boiling them in a pot. It simply seemed like too much trouble.)
Using this product is *really* easy! I simply wash the baby bottles to be sure that all the food remains are out of them, and then sterilize them in this steam sterilizer. That entails stacking the items in the sterilizer, adding seven ounces of water, and putting them in the microwave on high for four minutes. (As other reviewers have indicated, the amount of time you use varies depending upon the wattage of your microwave.) The whole process takes under 10 minutes, and I feel better knowing that the bottles I'm using to feed my baby are really clean. (I felt good about the cleanliness of the bottles from the dishwasher, but it took the length of time that it takes to run a cycle of dishes through the dishwasher. And, I was more likely to run out of clean bottles, because they would all be in the dishwasher.)
As other reviewers have also indicated, the steam that is generated to sterilize the bottles is very hot, and you can scald yourself if you come into contact with the steam or the water inside the steamer. However, because you are sterilizing the bottles in a separate step, you can wash the bottles with water that your hands will tolerate, and not worry that it won't be hot enough to clean properly or kill germs.
If you have a baby that will be eating from a bottle and a microwave, this product will make your life easier, save you time, save on energy and water bills, and (if you're like me), give you peace of mind. I highly recommend it.
