Small Travel First Aid Kit

Pros Perfect size for travel, contains a good assortment of first aid supplies
Cons Not inclusive, added my own items to the kit
Recommended it? Yes
The Bottom Line:  A great little first aid kit for travel, hiking or camping.  Still needed to add a few items of my own.
When we had our motor home, we had a travel sized first aid kit that we took with us everywhere.  However, when we sold the motor home, the kit went with it.

We have been doing some air travel recently, and are taking another trip in November.  I felt it would be prudent to buy a small, inexpensive first aid kit to take along with us, and this Johnson & Johnson version is perfect for such a purpose.

The supplies come in a rectangular shaped plastic box, measuring 6 1/4" by 5 1/2", and it only an inch and a half in height, so it will fit easily into a backpack or suitcase.  It's a little large for a hand bag, but it would also make a good choice for slipping into the glove box or trunk of your car.

Johnson & Johnson calls this their "Safe Travels" first aid kit, and claims it has "Pack & Go" convenience.  How true!  The contents include 70 different items, all for treating basic first aid issues.  Exact contents are listed on the back of the container, so you know what you are getting (the plastic case is shrink wrapped so you won't be able to take a peek in the store).  Contents are:

* 6 Cleansing Wipes
* 4 Packets Antibiotic Ointment
* Assorted sizes of Band-aids
* Gauze Pads
* 6 Butterfly Closures
* 4 Packets of Extra Strength Tylenol
* 2 Packets of Motrin

While the plastic case is pretty full with all of these items (they are all pre-packaged in small packets), I still found room for some sample sized items that my husband and I received from our dermatologist.  Since I ended up purchasing a pair of tweezers on our recent trip to Hawaii, I would include these in the kit as well.

We used the cleansing wipes, Band-aids, and Tylenol on our trip, and I would also include some travel packets of antacids for future use.  (Just be sure that when these items become outdated that you replace them).

Since I bought my travel sized first aid kit, I have not had to use the "butterfly" closures, but I have used them over the years, and they are an excellent first aid tool to have on hand.  I once cut my finger rather deeply with a kitchen knife, and I was only able to stop the bleeding by closing the cut with a butterfly closure.  It was a deep cut, and I probably should have received stitches, but the butterfly worked very well to keep the cut closed and that allowed it to heal.

When you are out camping or hiking, these butterfly closures alone are worth the cost of the entire kit (which is around $6).  Does this kit contain everything that you might need?  No.  Does it have the versatility of a large, expensive first aid kit?  No.  Is it worth the money?  Definitely!  This is a great little travel first aid kit to pack along when you are leaving your home, and there is room enough to add a few other essential first aid items.  I highly recommend this first aid kit.
