"Normal" Racket is Driving Us Crazy!
Pros
Looks, storage, shelving, digital temperature readout, easy adjustment
Cons
Just too noisy to tolerate!
Recommended it?
No
The Bottom Line:
You will be sorry you bought it because the NOISE IS SO ANNOYING!
We just received this model less than a month ago as a replacement under warranty of a previous model purchased in early 2008 (which we liked very much, but whose compressor failed in exactly a year).
The styling is a little nicer than the first model, with an easy to read temperature gauge and more shelving. But my husband and I are about to tear our hair out from the noise from the fan cycling on-and-off EVERY FIVE SECONDS! If you've heard a ceiling fan on a dimmer switch, imagine that noise cycling on and off in your kitchen.
Surely, we thought, it just has a faulty chip or something that could be easily serviced. But when I called the Avanti service line I was told that no, that was normal operation. You've got to be kidding me!
Besides hearing this in the kitchen and in the adjacent office and guest room 24-7, we hear it through the kitchen ceiling in our bedroom at night. And don't think that you'll get used to it. It's been four weeks and it still grates on our nerves.
I don't understand why they don't design it to run the fan constantly if it's necessary to maintain temperature ... then at least it would become white noise and fade to the background. Instead, even as I sit here at my computer 20 feet away, I am jolted every five seconds with the noise.
As soon as we can afford it we are going to replace it with one from a different manufacturer. What a waste of $600 this was.
