The Bottom Line:
What a wonderful product this is! It's so moisturizing to the delicate eye area, and it's truly all natural.
My latest "all natural" choice of cosmetics are made by a company called Avalon Organics. They are not sold in many grocery stores, but I'm very fortunate that Fred Meyer sells the Avalon line in their natural foods department.
Their Vitamin C Revitalizing Eye Cream is expensive, but most high end cosmetics worth their salt are, so I wasn't too put off by the price, especially since it was on sale.
This comes in a one ounce glass container, which I love. There is a lot of controversy right now about how some plastics will leach toxic chemicals into their contents, so I am always thrilled to find a product that is packaged in glass. Just this week I read two articles in our local paper about this health concern. A chemical called BPA (Bisphenol A), is in many plastic containers, and the U.S. National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences has warned that this can leach into food and liquid, and has the potential to "alter human development". The Canadian government has already banned BPA from being used in the manufacturing of plastic baby bottles. So this is a real concern of mine.
The bottle is small, measuring 4" tall and 1 1/4" in diameter, and it holds one ounce. This has the BEST designed pump dispenser that I have ever used. The hole is tiny, like 1/16 of an inch, and you can pump out a tiny amount (which is all you need), so it isn't wasted! The cream itself is quite thick and rich, but it's not in the least greasy. It absorbs into the eye area very quickly and nicely, leaving no shine behind.
Avalon claims that this will protect, repair, and firm the delicate eye area, diminishing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. It doesn't say it will get rid of them, just make them look less noticeable. And it does that nicely. When I follow the directions and pat it gently into my laugh lines, it makes the skin around my eyes look brighter and smoother.
Although Avalon's vitamin C face cream has a great orange scent, this version for the eyes doesn't have much odor at all associated with it.
The little bottle claims this is pH balanced, and that it provides a defense against "sun aging". I can't find any sunscreen listed, nor any claims that it has any SPF factors, so I visited the Avalon Organics website to see if that would explain this claim. According to their site, and all I could find was the statement that it contains Vitamin C for optimal photo-aging protection.
This product is good for people with all skin types, and the Vitamin C will remain stable over the shelf life of the eye cream. I've had mine since last summer, and it still smells great in the sense that it is not rancid. I have had some problems with a few Burt's Bees products getting that rancid odor over time.
