Audition.......
Audition, produced in 1999 by Omega Entertainment in Japan, was released in the US on DVD in 2001 with an MPAA rating of Youth Restricted Viewing due to strong violence and sex. The unsuspecting American public was in for a rude awakening with the extent of brutality, human torture and pain... Read full review »
Audition: A Twisted Tale of Love in Japan
The premise of 1999's Audition (Odishon) is simple enough. A widowed father has finally decided to move on with life after seven years of grieving and wants to remarry. Unfortunately after all those years of self-imposed seclusion he doesn't know how to locate a wife. His friend has a brilliant... Read full review »

Hollywood seemed to have lost its touch in the horror genre. Just slap in a couple of teen stars, add a glimpse of tits and a$$, and finish it up with some gore. Voila! Studio executives believe that with...

To help find another woman to bring joy into Aoyama's charmless life, his best friend, television producer Yoshikawa, convinces Aoyama that they should add a fake part to a show they are auditioning actresses for--a role that will become Aoyama's real-life companion. After a series of comical auditions, in walks a woman whom Aoyama thinks is perfect--Asami, played by former model Eihi Shiina. But when Aoyama proves too tentative in his courting--and starts learning odd things about Asami's past--she decides to exact a revenge that filmgoers will never forget.Director Takashi Miike's film, based on the novel by Ryu Murakami, begins like a slow-moving romance, carefully developing the characters and their maturing relationships. Audition
If you want the full sledgehammer-to-th e-stomach effect of Audition, stop reading this review now. Just watch it and take the consequences. At first glance, Takashi Miike's jack in the box of a movie works like a romantic comedy: amiable widower Shigeharu Aoyama (Ryo Ishibashi) decides it's time to find a new wife, and a friend suggests holding a fake audition to find the right girl. It soon becomes clear that there is something wrong with Aoyama's choice. This is no ordinary Fatal Attraction-style thriller, however; Audition slowly and carefully builds into a wrenching exploration of both deep male fears and the stereotype of the cute, submissive Japanese woman. Audition is by no means an easy movie to watch--even hardcore horror fans may have trouble--but it will stay with you for a long, long time. --Ali Davis
