Home Setup is a breeze! Car Setup, not so simple.
Pros
Great options, cheap and easy to use!
Cons
Car hookup is a pain and it doesn't come with a home kit
Recommended it?
Yes
The Bottom Line:
I would definately reccomend this because the service is great, home setup is easy, and having 170 channels to listen to is very cool!!
I got this for Christmas. It does not come with a home kit. You have to purchase it seperately. I got my home kit for 40.00. Xm makes a universal kit. I have not hooked this up in my car yet.
I called XM to set up service before I hooked it up. It costs me 14.97 for 3 months of service. I get the XM Everything package which includes 170 channels. There are two kids channels and all the rest are music, sports, news, and talk. I love this thing!
First of all, let me just tell you that NOTHING electronic has ever been so easy to hook up! Simply hook the antenna, power adapter and av jacks to the back of the XM and then plug the Av cables into the stereo or radio you will be using. It takes about 10-15 minutes for your service to be active. From there this thing is a piece of cake!
It stores 30 of your favorite ongs and artists. Simply hold the knob down for 3 seconds and it stores whatever song/artist is playing. Next time that song/artist is playing on XM, your unit will beep. All you do is push the knob and it will switch to that channel. Very cool!
You can search using the search button which can be set to category or scan. Scan scans through different music. I think it is random but I am not sure. Category is the one I use. that lists all the dfferent types of channels. Ie: rock, R&B, hip hop, holiday, news, kids etc...
I looked at the car setup and it looks complicated to me. You have to lift the weather sealing off your windshield or run it through the trunk and under your carpet. I don't like that because I really don't want to mess with the weather sealing on my car, but I will definately ask my husband to set it up because I am hooked on my Satellite radio now. There are 4 different options for car setup though, so maybe one of the others would be acceptable for you.
All in all, I love my satellite radio! I love choosing between channels, I love no commercials, and I love how easy this thing is to use. If you buy this, just remember that in order to hook it up in your home, you will need the home kit. This radio does not come with it. It does come with a car kit with everything you need for car installation included.
