Disappointing quality and function- cross this model off your list
Pros
EXCELLENT battery life, convenient style, handy remote
Cons
runs very hot, frequent skipping while playing, too fragile and short-lived for the price.
Recommended it?
No
The Bottom Line:
Avoid this model- runs too hot, skips too much, 90 day warranty and unit died in 11 months.
I was delighted to receive this DVD player as a gift a year ago. It's trim style is great for travel and the remote allows you to operate the unit connected to a tv on the other side of the room without running back and forth.
Unfortunately, the model has intrinsic flaws from the get-go such as running very VERY warm and skipping a great deal on clean DVDs. The heat is of concern for travel situations where you might want to rest it on your knees or rest it on a seat next to you. On the last DVD I successfully played, the closed captioning randomly popped on and off, scenes would hang for between 5 seconds and nearly a minute, and several of the additional features appeared only as scrambled pixels on the screen. Afterward, I tested the disk on a friend's $90 year-old DVD/VCR unit and the disk played flawlessly. Reading other reviews posted around the net, I hear these exact problems echoed again and again from users of this model. It would seem these are design flaws of this unit.
Sadly, after infrequent, gentle use for 10 months, the screen suddenly when to it's highest white-out brightness and could never be adjusted back. One month later the player ceased functions (connected to a tv for viewing). Arriving with only a skimpy 90-day warranty, it certainly wasn't worth the price tag.
