With AudioQuest Sub-1 subwoofer cable, silver gives your subwoofer a huge performance edge. Sub-1 kills distortion by using identical solid 2.5% silver conductors for the positive and negative conductors. Strand interaction is the greatest single source of cable distortion. Sub-1's 24 AWG solid conductors eliminate this distortion. PE Air Tubes minimize information smearing caused by any solid or foam insulation. Silver-plated plugs are cold-welded to Sub-1, and the 100% coverage shield stops airborne noise interference. Silver-Plated Copper (SPC) always provides superior performance for video and digital audio. Unfortunately, when used for full-range analog audio, the discontinuity of plating copper over silver causes high frequencies to sound edgy and harsh. However, when used only for subwoofer frequencies, SPC actually enhances the articulation and intelligibility of low-frequency information. And the high silver content (2.5%) of Sub-1 makes a performance difference you can hear. While not common, sometimes there is a hum problem unless the ground of the subwoofer and ground of the receiver (or processor or preamp) are attached to each other. Sub-1 includes an additional conductor with spade-lug tails at both ends of the cable. If the system has a hum problem, try attaching the lugs to the metal chassis of the subwoofer amp chassis and to the amp chassis on the sending end. Normally this extra wire will not be needed.
