Pros
2 player co-op; Lots of characters; Lengthy story; Charming; Lots of variety, replayability and gameplay
Cons
Doesn't bring much new to the table; Some of the puzzles are awkward

Yes
The Bottom Line:
Definitely worth <$20 if you're looking for brickloads (yeah, yeah) of gameplay. Bonus if you're a fan of Batman and LEGO bricks. A game for ALL ages.
If you're a fan of previous LEGO games (Star Wars, Indiana Jones), then you'll most likely enjoy this title. For better or worse: It doesn't bring a whole lot new to the LEGO video game formula, but what is there, is a solid title.
If you're unfamiliar with the LEGO video game series, what you can expect is this: A two player beat-'em-up / shoot-'em-up collect-a-thon puzzler hybrid in LEGO form. (Some vehicles and other gizmos thrown in the mix, too.) Yes. That's a mouthful, but an accurate description of this amalgam of gamestyles.
If you don't have a buddy to play shotgun, then the second player will be an AI partner, whom you can hotswap. For instance, if you're playing as Batman, and your AI partner is Robin, you can actually hotswap between the two characters to get full use of each of the characters' abilities... This comes in handy throughout the entire game, but sometimes the AI can be excruciating inept. Thankfully, you can kind of proverbially take away the proverbial controller from your AI partner and show him how it's done, thanks to this hotswap feature
Now, you don't build LEGO cars and houses, and such, in this game... you more or less simply control a LEGO Batman character - such as Batman, or ones of his foes - and fend off enemies with your respective attacks, gadgets and abilities, running and jumping (and sometimes driving), solving logical puzzles and unlocking secrets throughout various locales and story arcs of Gotham City -- all reimagined in LEGO form.
The best thing that this title has going for it, along with other LEGO titles, is its variety. There are two story modes. One for the villains and one for Batman. Each of the characters have their own abilities (Batman and his Batarang; Robin and his agility; The Joker's dual machine guns; Killer Croc's strength; etc.), and you can play as multiple characters, which you can switch on the fly, to liven up the way you tackle objectives and complete character-specific puzzles. There are puzzles abound in Gotham City. All clever and rewarding. And you're find yourself driving various Batman vehicles, Joker goon squad vans and even a T-Rex skeleton made of LEGO.
There's a lot of emphasis on teamwork in this game, and in other LEGO games. You can play as a multitude of Batman characters, each with their own unique abilities. You'll have to utilize these unique characteristics to not just complete the level, but to obtain hidden and out of reach unlockables.
And that is where the game shines: The co-operative gameplay. If you're a parent and want to play a game with your child, or have your two kids have something fun and lighthearted to play, then this is ideal!
The collecting of unlockables, new characters, hidden items and currency (gold and silver LEGO studs used to purchase more unlockables) adds tons of replayability.
As this is a PS2 title, the graphics are a little on the not-so-good side, but the charm and art style outshine the graphical shortcomings.
My major complaint is that some of the puzzles can be a little too awkward and obtuse - and this game is puzzle heavy. They're not extremely difficult, by any means... but sometimes they're not very clear, and can take a while to grasp, which could be extremely frustrating for some players. (Just keep an online strategy guide handy!)
If LEGO and Batman are two things you love, then this game is a must own... but I'd recommend purchasing it for $20, or so. You'll definitely get your money's worth with this game and its high replayability factor.
