Take to the skies with 'Air Attack'

Pros simple controls, fun to play
Cons possibility of being bored with it
Recommended it? Yes
I first got hooked on the Army Men games while playing the original on the PC. I just thought the premise of the game was hilarious and done very well. The controls were easy and the visual effects pretty humorous. Being the fan of flying games that I am, I rushed out to get 'Army Men: Air Attack' when it became available. Like the original, this one has failed to disappoint me.

In 'Air Attack', we rejoin the continuing conflict between the Green and Tan armies. This time, the conflict has gone to the skies, or at least a few feet off the ground of the backyard. You are in charge of flying missions for the Green Army's elite helicopter unit. At your disposal are different models of choppers, weapons, and co-pilots/gunners.

'Air Attack' features two main methods of game play: one player and two player. In the one player mode, you fly various missions for the green army. Each mission will feature a different challenge and the difficulty increases with each mission. In two player mode, there are two different options to choose: cooperative and head-to-head. In the cooperative mode, you and a friend fly the same missions in one player mode. So far the missions appear to be identical, however, I got much farther with the help of a friend so I can't tell with some of the later missions. In head-to-head, you and your friend are playing an aerial version of capture the flag. You have to fly into enemy territory, retrieve the flag, and get it back safely to your base.

Game play is extremely simple. You can learn the controls very quickly which makes it really easy for someone who is new to the game to sit down and become a master in a matter of minutes. This makes for some great games of Head-to-head as well as Cooperative mode.

The graphics are a little choppy but the interface is very straightforward. You have a map you can toggle on or off which makes it easy to find your objectives. In addition, there are indicators for your ammo, direction, and armor. The sound effects add the little touches that make the game funny, from the snappy comments of your co-pilot to the sounds you encounter while playing.

It's all about playability here. The game is simple and fun to play. However, I could see hard corps gamers getting sick of this game within a matter of hours. For myself, since I only play from time to time, I find the missions challenging and if I ever get bored, I get a friend to play in either of the two modes.
