Even better than the first one!
Pros
controls are the same, great graphics.
Cons
difficult to understand rules manual.
Recommended it?
Yes
When I first got my original Playstation, I bought Armored Core. A great game for all of us hard core table top battle gamers. So of course when I got my PS2, I bought Armored Core 2.
I must say I am truly pleased! For all those of you the played the first game and enjoyed it I highly recommend that you pick this one up. The controls are exactly the same so you don't have to worry about learning anything new. You can just pop it in and enjoy the scenery and the story line.
Like the other Armored Core, this one does have an underlying plot. I can honestly say I am not even remotely anywhere along that plot line though but I am still thoroughly enjoying the game!
One thing that did throw me for a loop.. there are new things you have to worry about like heat, and how extensions work. I think this adds a new and interesting depth to the game but I can tell you with all honesty that when you are being pummeled and you are just watching your armor points cruise downward.. you start to wonder why. The rules book is still delightfully void of truly useful information but if you played the other game, you can get the hang of this one. For brand new owners... you may have a bit of a hard time understanding a few things.
The missions are a lot harder but I do think they make the game that much more enjoyable. I enjoy a game that you have to work to get anywhere with. I am not one to like it if I can breeze through it in under a day or two. I've had it about three weeks now and still want to play all the time.
The terrains are much more in depth and the scenery much clearer and vast. Personally I think they did a great job with AC2 and new owner or previous gamer alike should pick it up and give it a try!
