The Bottom Line:
I can't really recommend it, but it was very close to being a good game. With more players and maybe some tighter controls, this could be good.
Armored Core 2 is a game that could have been great but fell at the finish line.
Graphics: Good, for an early PS2 game, and it suffices, but it's not quite on par with what we've come to expect, and that's all there is to say about it.
Gameplay: The robots move exactly like they look: oversized, clunky. This may be what the developers were looking for, but it makes for sluggish control, which can mean life or death in this game. It features an interesting story line with multiple paths and a ton of customizable parts for your AC, or, Armored Core, the giant robot you pilot around to blow up other robots. It also has an arena mode where you can win prizes from other pilots for beating them as you move up the rank. Other than the Arena mode, there are decent variety of missions to complete. Again, half the fun (and half the battle) in this game is customizing your AC with an in-depth garage system. You can save and load your AC's so you can battle your friends in the arena mode on about 10 different maps, which are all fairly big.
Sound: Sound effects aren't as varied as one would think with the variety in parts, but you hardly notice it. What you do notice is the repetitive music.
Value: It doesn't hold a lot of replay value because it's only two player and the fun is in the assumption you have ammassed a huge plethora of parts that another player can choose from to build an AC with to battle your AC.
