This thing is the GOD of portable video, TiVo features make this a must!
this is by far, the best and most powerful player ive ever seen or handled. this thing i treat like a perfect diamond, its been in the leather case so long, when i take it out to look at the battery, it seems wierd how small it is. with the right encoding skills, anyone can make perfect use of this device. using the provided tools on the device itself, you can convert all of your non-archos friendly video files. unlike most players, this one needs little to no conversion to get your videos onto the player, a huge plus for you movie lovers. if you want to get movies into this device, i recomend downloading the Divix or whatever, i cant spell it. get that and a program called magic DVD ripper, it converts physical DVD disks into AVi or whatever. as long as you use the avi setting on the ripper tool, the files it produces needs no conversion to run on the archos. make use of the divx bitrate calculator, it makes getting high quality dvds into the archos much easier. battery life is amazing, i took this thing to veas for the weekend, it lasted for me.
when this thing arrives in the mail, you think its all fantastic and everything, but when you open the box and turn it on, the screen alone is enough to floor you. a huge pro for this is the fact that nothing in here is propritary, meaning you dont have to make your own stuff is archos goes out of buisness to get what you want. scratch that, only the camera and docking pod is, but thats understandable. the battery is heavy, it counts for almost e of the weight of the player, thats good because that means more power for you! this isnt a normal he look, it recharges battery, its a LiPo, not Li or lithium ion, this is lithium ion Polymer, those techies out there would know that NASA uses these batteries in thier sattelites because they are extremly durable, meaning they can take tons of charge and discharges, meaning the lifetime of the battery is long. also, it doesnt have the memory effect most NiCD batteries had, so charge it whenever you want to, and fear nothing!
UPDATE: the Archos company has stopped making these in the quantity they used to, so i expect soon for them to run out.
