If you read my blistering review of the Hagen Cycle product you know how much I dislike bacterial products. At the same Microbiology lab we looked at Stress-Zyme. The lab ran a plate count on Stress-Zyme and to my amazement the lab lady told me "The bugs are in there." I could not believe it. Here was a bacterial product that actually had bacteria in it.
I had ti find out more. I phoned the manufacturer to see if they even knew what they were selling. The amazing thing was that the phone tech told me the same thing the lab told me. Stress-Zyme contained bacteria that would help get the biological filter up and running. make note that there is no product out there that contains bacteria that convert ammonia to nitrite and then nitrate. Those bacteria come in on the fish. They cannot be packaged effectively. That is the same story I got from the phone tech! Seems that Stress-Zyme contains certain bacteria that create the right conditions for the biological filter to develop. I was again skeptical but said thanks and hung up.
I set up three tanks, two with Stress-Zyme and one without. I added the same number of fish to all tanks. I fed all the fish the same amount. After several weeks I say a trend forming. The Stress-Zyme treated aquariums were clearer, cleaner and had cycled faster than the untreated aquarium. To me that meant that Stress-Zyme had worked. I still use Stress-Zyme in my established aquariums. Stress-Zyme keeps my gravel clean and algae problems are reduced when I add Stress-Zyme on a reguar basis. If I run out of Stress-Zyme the tanks tend to get a bit dirtier sooner.
