Aquamarine

Based on the book by Alice Hoffman (PRACTICAL MAGIC), the refreshingly innocent AQUAMARINE follows two 13-year-old best friends through the last days of summer. Claire (Emma Roberts) and Hailey (Joanna "JoJo" Levesque) are inseparable, sharing everything including a crush on lifeguard hottie Raymond (Jake McDorman). But their days of carefree giggling will soon come to an end if they can't find a way to stop Hailey's imminent move to Australia. Unexpectedly coming to their rescue is Aquamarine (Sara Paxton), a mermaid who appears one day at the beach-club that Claire's grandparents own. Emerging from the pool with long blonde hair, eyeliner, and sass, the mermaid possesses everything Claire and Hailey lack--confidence, big breasts, and nail polish that changes color with her mood. If the girls can get Aquamarine (whose fin transforms into long legs on land) used to life among humans and help her find true love, they may get their wish granted for Hailey to stay. Putting their personal feelings towards Ra...

Pros Wait a second, I'm still thinking...
Cons The movie

Let us get something out of the way. No, while watching this complete waste of time, I did not lose sight of the fact that this is a preteen movie. Besides, I have seen preteen movies that have charm, style and are more intelligent than they first appear. Aquamarine misses that elite category by a... Read full review »

Pros clean, funny, cute love story, well written, good plot
Cons a bit cheesy

My friends and i absolutely love this movie. I bought this movie because I realized that it is such a cute but also clean movie. Girls that are pre-teen and young teenagers will definitely love this movie! But I would not necessarily recommend it for boys, it is mostly a chick flick. What I've... Read full review »

Aquamarine (Full Frame, Widescreen)

Two best friends get exactly what they fish for in "Aquamarine," a laugh-out-loud hilarious comedy about friendship. Emma Roberts, Sara Paxton and pop sensation JoJo star in "The Sweetest Treat Since 'Princess Diaries!'" (Yahoo! Movies) It's the end of summer and Claire (Roberts) and Hailey (JoJo) have a major problem. In just five days, Hailey's family is moving halfway around the world! These girls need a major miracle, and they get one in the form of Aquamarine, a beautiful mermaid who washes ashore in a late summer storm. Sweet but clueless to the ways of romance, she offers to grant the girls one wish if they help her find the boy of her dreams. But when they attempt to reel in the cute local lifeguard, the result is something none of them expect and they discover that sometimes what you wish for isn't what you really want after all. Aquamarine Movie Cash; Dual Side DVD

Based on the book by Alice Hoffman PRACTICAL MAGIC the refreshingly innocent AQUAMARINE follows two 13-year-old best friends through the last days of summer. Claire Emma Roberts and Hailey Joanna "JoJo" Levesque are inseparable sharing everything including a crush on lifeguard hottie Raymond Jake McDorman. But their days of carefree giggling will soon come to an end if they can't find a way to stop Hailey's imminent move to Australia. Unexpectedly coming to their rescue is Aquamarine Sara Paxton a mermaid who appears one day at the beach-club that Claire's grandparents own. Emerging from the pool with long blonde hair eyeliner and sass the mermaid possesses everything Claire and Hailey lack--confidence big breasts and nail polish that changes color with her mood. If the girls can get Aquamarine whose fin transforms into long legs on land used to life among humans and help her find true love they may get their wish granted for Hailey to stay. Putting their personal feelings towards Raymond aside the girls attempt to set him up with the mermaid despite interference by a villainous girl who wants Raymond for herself. When the girls aren't on the beach they're shopping or having sleepovers in bedrooms covered with the marks of teen girlhood: pink bedspreads pictures of celebrities and an endless supply of teen magazines. The film's funniest moments come from the characters' attempts to not only master the magazine's many absurd prescribed techniques for getting boys' attention but also from their having to teach a mermaid to do the same. While the film doesn't exactly argue with the messages spouted by publications like CosmoGirl it brings them into question by highlighting just how centrally they factor into shaping the "tween" generation. It also suggests true friendship may be more valuable than perfect looks or popularity.
