Modern day grandma's brag book photo album. Multi functions really rock!
Pros
Very responsive, multiple functions and lightweight.
Cons
Everything is an add-on, screen protectors, cases, etc. Can't replace battery.

The Bottom Line:
Good decision to buy, excellent functionality, Would buy again.
I wanted a new MP3 player to replace my OLD Ipod shuffle 1GB that I've had for years and have not had any trouble with, but it wasn't until we got our first grand-baby that I could justify the purchase of an Ipod Touch 32GB 3rd generation. This gave me the opportunity to carry around a load of pictures of the cute little guy, ready to whip out for all to see in an instant! That was my main motivation.
I debated about what size to get (8GB, 16GB, 32GB, 64GB) and decided on the 32GB, figuring that I wouldn't carry around much more data than that. I've had it about 8 months and I have about 18GB full. The manual is lacking in detail for lots of the functions, and some things I just stumble on, like the 30 second rewind function.
The interface on Itunes is relatively easy to use, although there is a slight but not significant learning curve. There are loads of games available for purchase, and those are OK, but it's not what I use it for the most.
I buy audiobooks from audible.com and listen to them while on my daily walk, or in the car. We're snowbirds, so we spend lots of time in the car! What I DON'T like is that I can't just hit a button to pause the playback like I could with my shuffle. Say someone comes up to you and starts talking. Well, you have to look at the Ipod Touch, slide to unlock the machine and then press pause. By this time, you've already missed some of the audiobook. You can go back 30 seconds at a time by touching the top of the screen, but it would be nice if you could just press a button to pause it without looking at the screen.
Because I can't see tiny print without reading glasses, which are almost always NOT where I'M at, I originally thought it would only let you listen to one book at a time, but it does keep your place in each book with a notation in the tiniest print. Sometimes my husband and I are listening to a book in the car, and later I'm on my walk and I'm listening to something else, maybe a chick novel that he wouldn't be interested in.
The armband I have is a bit unwieldy and I can see where it could fall off if bumped, or it could be stolen if you fell asleep somewhere like on an airplane while listening to music. I made myself a little padded pouch that I can hang on my neck and tuck into my shirt. If I were buying another armband, I would make sure it was one that secured the Ipod Touch in a pouch, instead of clamping on to the plastic case.
The screen is very sensitive to the touch and often reacts when you don't intend to touch it. You'd think that Apple could include a skin and a screen protector with as expensive an item that this is.
I love the wireless internet feature for checking my email on the fly, without having to haul out the laptop at airports, coffee shops, etc. I wish it would update the Inbox contents (I use yahoo mail) instead of downloading the new messages and not deleting the ones I've already deleted in the interim while I was on another computer.
I also wish it had a GPS function to keep track of how far I walk. There is a map my walk app, but it's tricky and I gave up trying to use it.
