A Runner's Pain Killer
Pros
The iPod shuffle is light weight, small, stylish, and affordable
Cons
Because it is so small, it can easily be misplaced. Just keep track of it.

Yes
The Bottom Line:
I would recommend this iPod to any athlete who needs music on a run or a hard work out. I give it five of five stars.
One of my goals in life is to run a marathon. I have heard so many inspiring stories of how wonderful a marathon is and the amazing feeling you can have after completing it. Because of these numerous stories and my self goal to complete a marathon, I began training for my first marathon over the summer. At the beginning of my training season, I could barely run three miles. I was definitely off to a rocky start to say the least.
How did people do it? If my plan was to run a marathon and I could barely run three miles I had a long way to go. I had so many questions to ask and often times found that I didn't even have to ask after people found out what I was doing. People, runners especially, love to give advice on what shoes to get, what to eat, what to wear, and other helpful tidbits to prepare for race day.
The most helpful piece of advice I got, however, was to try listening to music while running. At the time, I was having a really hard time running throught the general pain that a runner will experience. Listening to music drastically altered my peformance while I trained. I found that I was able to run faster, go longer, and have more fun while running. Music would really pump me up for a run and the aerobic music would help so much to keep me going.
At first, I would take my roommate's iPod out and listen to her song selection. She has a big video iPod that holds up to 20,000 songs. I'm not a big fan of carrying things while I run, especially something as big as her video iPod. I loved listening to music, but running for 10 miles while holding a water bottle in one hand and an iPod in the other was very tedious. Plus, having to ask every time if I could borrow her iPod when I went running would really annoy her.
To resolve having a contankerous roommate, I set out to buy my own. Cost was a huge factor for me because I'm trying to get through college. I wanted something cheap and efficient that I could take with me on my runs and not be bothered by it. That was when I came across an iPod shuffle. Priced at half the cost of a cheap iPod, it was extremeley affordable. I only payed $50 for it!
The iPod Shufflle was especially convenient because it came with all of the necessities to work it--the head phones and the charger. I felt like I was getting a pretty good deal on it for paying what I did when it came with everything else. Some MP3 players sell their items seperately which quickly adds up in the total cost of the iPod.
The very best features about the iPod shuffle for me as a runner is the small size, the built-in clip, and the simple set up that makes it so a completely inept and technologically impaired person, like myself, can easily figure out how to use it. Also, because it's so simple to use, I just clip it on the waistband of my running shorts and simply press a button to go either forward and back in my songs This eliminated so much of the previous hassle of having to sort through playlists to find something that I liked to hear.
Another thing that I like is that I am able put up to 500 songs on this device which is more than enough to last me on a big long run plus whatever I end up doing afterwards. It can be used continuously for up to 12 hours and not only is it efficient, but very stylish. The iPod Shuffle comes in five different colors including a vibrant blue, silver, purple, pink, and red. My iPod is my favorite color blue and I love the look of it.
Whether you're training for a marathon, going to the gym, or just want to have a simple and easy way to access songs the iPod Shuffle is a great way to go and I highly recommend this little device to any other runners out there who are looking for a way to keep their mind of the pain of running.
