The Bottom Line:
Beware...do your research and read other opinion. Weigh your options.
Below is my first review of the iPod. Here's the latest, and it's not good.
I finally updated to the newest version of iTunes, and it happened. My iPod started to shut off by itself, freeze up, and I had to restore the iPod back to factory settings 3 times. The game I bought doesn't let me get past level 5 and then it freezes up my iPod. I've tried to get help from the iPod website, but to no avail, I haven't had any luck. It still freezes up by itself and it's starting to go downhill fast along with my love of it.
It's been one year since I've had it and it is starting to be more of a trouble than an joy. I'm not as satisfied as I was before. Maybe it is true that the technology will become obsolete fast.
I originally bought the iPod because I was going to be in Russia for an exchange program, and it worked then, but not so much now.
Why do I still have an inkling of love for the iPod? I love music, and I like being able to take all of my favorite music with me when I travel in the car. But, I hate that it doesn't work all the time and the chance of it freezing up and having to re-dock it to my computer is high...meaning it's out of use until I hook it up to my computer.
Before I could plug it into the wall charger, and hardly ever have to dock it to the computer. Now, it's hooked to my computer almost every single day.
I still like it, but I probably would have really researched what others were complaining about and what they liked. If I waited until now, the iPod would have been almost a 100. cheaper. So, if you get one...buy the warranty plan through iPod. Make sure you have everything covered, because my iPod went out and started to mess up just as my 1-year plan expired. Get one that is longer and be prepared that it may work, but then could start to go bad.
OLD review below
I bought the nano in March of 2008 and it still works and I haven't had any problems with it.
I read some other reviews that the nano seems to freeze up into about the 3rd month and needs to be cleared.
I have not had the problem. I have over 600 songs and a few videos and tons of pictures, and my iPod hasn't frozen up or required any service of any kind.
It came with the iPod, cord and a small case. The directions need to be read or downloaded online, which I understand that it is "Green" but I honestly wanted the manual on hand. Once I went to the website and saw that it was 60 pages long.
When I bought this iPod, it was my first iPod or apple product. I didn't understand that you use the 'wheel' to control the iPod, but all was figured out shortly.
I don't like the idea that you have to download iTunes in order to use your iPod. I wished it was a little easier to put music on like a thumb drive, but iTunes does allow you to organize your music and pictures easier.
I haven't update iTunes for the fact that everything I've read says that updates make the iPod go crazy. But, I haven't updated and my iPod works great and I've never had any problems.
I keep finding out new things about my iPod.
I went on a study abroad trip and expect to use it as an alarm clock, but it doesn't make any noise without the headphones.
Also, I had to buy a protective case for it because it was not included.
I would recommend this for the music lover.
