The Best Nano Yet

Pros Incredible design, tons of storage, genius interface, tons of colors.
Cons none to speak of.
Recommended it? Yes
The Bottom Line:  The Chromatic is the best iteration of the Nano yet. Apple continues to design its way to success.

Intro
The term 'killer app' is usually reserved for software, but since its inception the iPod nano has been the killer app of the music player world.

The chromatic generation of the iPod Nano was supposed to be the iPod Classic's 'little brother'. As of today, the nano has become the showstopper of the iPod line and continues to dominate sales figures.

Features
The Nano Chromatic is another example of Apple's superior design powers. Weighing mere grams and with a profile rivaling a pack of gum, this iPod is the ultimate workout companion. To be certain, it's hard to believe Apple was able to fit all the features they did into this tiny case.

This generation of the Nano comes with the usual clickwheel interface iPod users will already be familiar with. The minijack port, dock connector, and lock switch are intelligently placed and easy to use. Every component of the case and hardware are of superior quality.

The Nano Chromatic is the model to come with motion sensors. As per the commercials, you can shake to shuffle tracks, but the motion sensors are fully functional and support motion sensitive games as well.

My Nano is the 16GB variety. This is way beyond the amount of music I would ever need to put on an iPod. According to iTunes, my iPod will store 8 days worth of my music.

Sychronization is done simply and easily using Apple's iTunes music application. Simply connect the iPod to your computer with the supplied cable and iTunes will sense you iPod and present a very flexible sync interface. The speedy USB2 interface can fully load my Nano in minutes. A usual sync takes only seconds.

Battery life of the Nano Chromatic is superb. Part of this owes to the solid state storage of the Nano, rather than the usual hard drive. My Nano generally gets 16 hours of playback before it needs  a recharge. Recharging is as simple and plugging the iPod in your computer with the dock cable.

Durability is a given with the Nano Chromatic. The solid aluminum body is very light but tough. The storage chip is solid state, which makes this unit much less susceptible to breakage than it's hard drive equipped brothers.

The sound quality of the Nano Chromatic is outstanding. In conjunction with my Bang & Olufsen earphones, I get near reference quality sound. For an earbud system, the sound quality of the Nano is amazing.

Overall
The Nano Chromatic is the best iteration of the iPod Nano line. Indeed, Apple has announced the discontinuation of the iPod Classic, which is probably due to the success of the Nano and iPhone. With the huge assortment of colors, I predict the Nano will be another Christmas hit for 2009.
