The Bottom Line:
Good product but not what's expected of Apple.
The new iPod Classic (MC297LL/A) is a great MP3 for music lovers. The 160GB version comes with plenty of storage (up to 40,000 songs, 25,000 photos or 200 hrs of video) and improved battery life (up to 36 hours however it varies and many users complain that it is far less than that). The display is 2.5 inch and although one can watch movies or look at pictures it is obvious that this product was not designed for that purpose. The quality of display is really good but it is far too small to enjoy a full-feature movie. Similarly, iPod Classic is OK for some basic games (it comes preloaded with Vortex, iQuiz and Klondike) but for more advanced games it is just too small. Now, for the pictures, the 160GB device can store up to 25K photos but again the eyes get easily tired by looking at that size of screen. However, one could display the pictures on a PC, Mac or TV using an optional component cable. Now the biggest disappointment is the sound quality (the most crucial part of any audio player), the sound of the new iPod Classic is not what is expected of the Apple product! Manyusers who have had some experience with previous versions of the iPod Classic believe that the sound is flat and lacks the richness of the other iPods.
To summarize, the new iPod Classic features great storage space, fast processor, slick design, light weight. However, in my opinion, the drawbacks listed above outnumber the positives by a large margin. The new iPod is a GOOD media player device for music fans. It lives up to its name-Classic, which in this case appears to be a bit behind the times.
$250. Is the new iPod Touch worth it? I do not think so.
