A mini media centre for those on the go...

Yes
The Bottom Line:
Great for listening to music and watching films on the go, works flawlessly with other Apple products, great design!
I recently picked up the iPod Video, thinking it would be a good way to pass the time during my daily commute. My primary interest was listening to music, but I thought that I might perhaps also enjoy the odd video.
Part of my decision was based on the fact that we recently ditched out PCs and went all Macintosh, so I was also looking for a player that would seamlessly integrate into our existing setup.
I have about 50GB of music, so I also needed something that would have the capacity to hold my entire collection. This might seem like overkill to some, but I like to listen to different artists/styles during the day.
Like other Apple products, the video iPod arrived smartly packaged and with easy to follow instructions. In no time at all I had it charged and synched with my music collection.
The iPod itself is like other Apple products, sleek and minimalist. It has a nice heft to it, so you know when it is in your pocket. No lightweight, plastic-y player here.
Operation is a breeze with the click-wheel. I found with larger collections it can be somewhat tiresome to scroll around, but there is an option to jump to the next letter (instead of going through individual entries) if you scroll fast enough.
There are no complaints with the playback audio quality. The onboard amp is more than loud enough, and there are several eq settings should the bass or treble not be to your liking. The earbuds that ship with the iPod are adequate, but you would most likely want to upgrade to a better pair.
Despite some negative reviews on the video size, I found viewing films on the iPod enjoyable. Sure, there are some other portable devices with better, bigger screens, but none seems to integrate itself into my existing Mac media centre as well as the iPod.
I actually enjoy watching films on the iPod. While it is by no means a replacement for a laptop or television, it is a nice way to enjoy some entertainment while on the go.
Like other iPods, this unit is also scratch-prone. I have a clear protective case for mine which takes the brunt of the scratches, and it is something which I would recommend for other iPod owners.
Because this unit has an actual hard drive, rather than flash memory, one should treat it with care. I handle mine as if it were a live grenade, and I have had no issues with drive errors.
Battery life has been fine for me. Because I always connect it back to the charger at the end of the day, I have not had any issues.
I have not tested the batter life intentionally, but on a recent flight from London to LA I was able to watch a two-hour film and listen to music for an additional three hours with no problems. I still had enough juice to listen for some time on the way back as well.
