Apple iPod 30GB... Worth it?
Pros
Excellent color screen, size, competitive price, style
Cons
Battery life for video, no way to change battery, video functions weakly fleshed out
Recommended it?
Yes
The Bottom Line:
ugh
This iPod is 20% smaller and 13% lighter than the 60GB model. Battery lasts 14 hours max of pure music playback and 3 hours max of photo/video playback (since backlight is always on for these functions and video processing more processor/battery intensive) versus 20/4 hours max for 60GB model as per Apple. White color lessens the impact of small scratches on the iPod surface compared to black color.
Overall, the iPod is an excellent unit that excels with music and is well worth the $299. Music playback is the key selling point not video. Video playback is decent/mediocre but lacking in several key respects (video playback is basic and limited in nature). The lack of included accessories is disturbing (follows trend with Apple's other iPods). No AC adapter included. I would recommend buying a case.
My opinions are formed from my ownership of 60GB Video iPod and handling of friends' and Apple instore units. I've seen more white 30GB models around than black or 60GB units.
My full review of 60GB Video iPod (functionally similar to the 30GB). NC10 wrote a nice indepth review on his 30GB unit here.
