iPod Mini a Success?

Pros Slim, Portable, High storage capacity, Easy to use
Cons Battery, High cost for accessories and Unit.
Recommended it? Yes
The Bottom Line:  The mini iPod is one of the best portable music players on the market. Welcome to the new age of music!!
I currently work at CompUSA. Although we sell many different items, I sell many iPods. The mini iPod is a fantastic unit. Not only is it small and compatible with everyday life activities, but it holds enough songs to satisfy a person for months. The 4 GB mini iPod comes with all the main accessories needed including the iPod itself, firewire connection cord (or USB2), headphones, rechargable battery, and a carrying clip. Honestly, there is no need to purchase any other accessories unless you want to use your mini iPod in more than one way. The headphones work perfectly with the iPod as well as the carrying clip. Also, the mini iPod is only 3.6 ounces. If you thought the regular iPods were small, this one will make you jump in your seat!

I purchased a mini iPod for my sister the day they came to CompUSA. Although, I personally prefer the bigger iPods, my sister wanted the new slim look of the mini iPod. The mini iPod's only specialties are that it is in color, and is a bit smaller than a normal iPod. Also, for an extra $50, you can actually get the 15 gig regular iPod. If you don't really mind the color or the size, I urge you to pay the extra 50. You get 11 gigs more space!

The iPod came with iTunes (a free service) which can be used as a library that holds songs that are downloaded or uploaded off of CDs. Not only can you load songs into iTunes, but you can purchase more songs for 99cents/song. My sister's personal experience with the iPod has been fairly good. She likes to take her mini iPod to work as well as everyday activities.

However, the mini iPod is not perfect. Unfortunately the battery is an issue with the mini iPods, and normal iPods for that matter. Apple claims that the iPod will play continuously for 8 hours. However, I have found the time to be quite less. In fact, one of the major problems with iPods is the battery. 4 out of 10 iPods that I sell have some sort of battery problem. Either the iPod will not play the entire 8 hours, or the iPod will not charge correctly. The power dies very quickly and sometimes does not display the correct amount of battery life.

Unfortunately Apple will not cover the battery unless you by extended coverage. They charge a minimum of $99 to replace the battery. I suggest buying an extended warranty on the iPod because most do cover the battery. I also suggest checking the iPod within the return time of whatever store you purchase at. This can save you the money if you do not want to purchase extended coverage.

Also, the mini iPod has a reputation for freezing. Although this is an annoyance, it can easily be fixed by holding down the play button and the menu button at the same time. This resets the mini iPod.

I am pleased to say that the mini iPod is a fantastic technological advance. I have heard very good reviews from my customers regarding the mini iPod. If you are interested in purchasing a CD player or MP3 player, I highly suggest the iPod. It is the number one unit on the market for any type of portable music player.

Although the mini iPod is a great item, for an extra 50 bucks I would definately get the 15 gig iPod. It holds much more space and really isn't too much bigger than the mini. Also, every place is currently sold out of the mini iPods. Although more are coming, it is going to be a while since Apple needs a supply of harddrives from samsung to put into the minis. There is no set date for another release of the mini iPods.
