Apple IPOD 20 GB, 3rd Generation

Pros Small, excellent quality, large 5,000 song memory.
Cons Poor battery life. Remote control quality. Scratches easily.
Recommended it? Yes
The Bottom Line:  Recommended. You will not be disappointed. You will not leave home with out it.
This is my first apple product and I must say I am quite impressed. The packaging will make you feel like a kid on Christmas morning. You will get excited when you see how well this product is packaged and presented.

This product is excellent. With the ability to carry 5,000 songs with you, you will never be bored of your music. I have taken my sync cable to friend's houses, installed itunes 4.6 on their computer, and cherry picked their music collection. I also bought several accessories such as the iTrip for playing songs wirelessly in your car, as well as the monster cable for playing songs through my home computer. I even purchased the Altec Lansing docking station and external speakers for when I want to share my music (i.e. camping, the beach, picnic, etc.). All of these accessory purchases have exceeded my expectations.

At several parties, the iPOD was the guest of honor! People are always amazed when you play a song that they like, but have not heard for a while. The instant access to 5,000 songs is incredible.

Things I like about the IPOD: Small size, build quality, 5,000 song memory, ease of use. Cool remote control.

Dislikes: Battery life is poor. May be 6 hours, not using the back light, the touch pad or searching for songs. Basically, you have to load a playlist and not touch the unit if you want the 6 hours of play time. I broke the remote in the first week. Basically, the slider which puts the unit on hold, fell out of the case, lost, never to be seen again. I do like using the remote, which still works. I just can't lock out the controls any more. The unit also scratches very easily, so be careful when cleaning it with a cloth. The touch pad can be overly sensitive and you have to push too many buttons to turn it off. I wish there was a dedicated on and off button. Sometimes, the unit accidently turns on, if you do not lock out the controls after turning it off.

Other dislikes are the fact that my new PC laptop with USB 2.0 and Firewire, will not charge this unit while syncing. When transferring songs, the battery drains very fast and can run out of power in less than 1 hour.

I sync the IPOD with 2 different computers, a desktop and laptop. If you are going to do this, you have to set up your IPOD to sync manually. Once you import the music into your library, drag it to the IPOD. The instructions are not very clear and when I first started using this unit, I tried dragging the music directly from the CD to the IPOD, which does not work.

Having said all this, I really love this unit. It will forever change your love and appreciation for music.
