The Bottom Line:
might work alright around the house but take it anywhere and you'll be sorry
I heard good things about iPODs so i decided to try one and am sorry that i did. It primarily resides in my pickup in the cupholder mount that can be purchased separately. The sound quality is good and so is the small size. There is however, a lot to be desired.
I live in Maine and the iPod definitely doesnt like the cold. The battery life is terrible - if it's had an hour or more of use since a top off and it sits overnight below freezing, forget about it waking up or lasting through the first song. I have the backlight timer set for 2 seconds and even at room temp i've never gotten over a few hours' play.
Although i have never had a skip, it will freeze for several seconds or totally lock up and need to be rebooted or hooked up to the dock. This happens frequently.
The finish is impressive in the box.. as soon as you touch the thing, it scratches and starts looking like garbage. The soft, rubber suction cup on the cupholder mount has left a nice ring of scratches. Its also easy to dent.
The backlighting and lighted buttons are very good and the display is sizeable but the text is small and hard to read especially when its scrolling.
Buttons activate easily and sometimes too easily- barely brushing across one that you didn't mean to touch makes using it a pain at times.
Maybe I was expecting too much but the unreliability was something i wasnt counting on. Im sure there are better players out there.
