The Bottom Line:
The iPod will suffice, for now, in a market filled with models with no memory or that are so tiny, you'll easily break them.
Just as Apple was gearing up with the new G4's, they decided to give their formerly clunky iPod a makeover. What did they do? Gave it a sleeker body, with controls that can light up in the dark. They also gave music-philes more drive space options to choose from, in addition to a bounty of official and unofficial accessories (do I really need a camera for my iPod when I have one in my phone and a digital one?). What didn't they do? Investigate better battery life and charging options (don't believe the hype - they can even die out in under 5 hours if you leave your iPod on hold or use the lit controls option one too many times), consider integrating other major music formats, such as WMA files, rather than creating new ones we can't even share with other non MAC friend unless they have the specific software needed.
Apple need to do what that they do best, and that's making things simple and affordable. Lose the iPod Solitaire and Address book - it's the 21st century's walkman for goodness sake, not a Palm Pilot - and devote more technology to battery life, decreasing file size, and of course tweaking the way that it works with iTunes, so that we can find simpler ways of transferring our library to other computers we may use.
