The Iphone 3GS is the easily the best cell phone I've ever owned.
Pros
Fast Internet, Easy interface, Apps make you smarter.
Cons
Battery life, non-removable battery, no additional storage.
Recommended it?
Yes
The Bottom Line:
If you are looking for a phone, the Iphone 3GS is the best phone I have ever tried. I highly recommend it.
Well, this may be just extra noise, but I thought I'd write a review for the fun of it.
A little background.
I had switched to ATT from T-Mobile about 2 years ago thinking I'd get an Iphone. But then I didn't. I got the AT&T Tilt instead. That was an awesome phone. After putting a few new ROMS on it from XDA Developers, it was clearly better than that generation of Iphone. I could surf, text, MMS, and tether with no problem at all. I could also run all the MS apps such as Word, Excel, etc. etc.
Then one day I actually got to hold an Iphone. The screen is so much bigger, and because of that, pushing the onscreen "buttons" is much, much easier and more receptive. I longed for that screen.
But the first iteration of Iphone couldn't do 3G. The next generation couldn't do video or MMS. None of them can tether.
These are all things my Tilt did, basically, out of the box.
Then the 3GS arrived.
The Iphone can now do video. MMS is easy. Tethering is still non-existant sadly enough.
What the Iphone has though, over any other cell phone I've seen or tried, is the MASSIVE amount of free apps.
The apps do ANYTHING you can think of. The apps make you smarter being that the answer to anything is right at your fingertips. If you don't have an app for the answer you need, you just hit the Google app and search for it.
Safari as a web-browser is so much better than Opera or anything I installed on WinMobile that it's not even close. IE for WinMobile is a joke.
The apps that you can install on the Iphone make using the internet and finding information very fast and very, very easy.
Another thing I like about the Iphone and AT&T's network is you can MMS or surf the web while on a call. The commercials are just starting to show this. I didn't think it was all that useful, until I had to shop for Christmas.
While talking to my wife, who was at work, and I was shopping I was trying to describe the sweater I was going to buy for her dad. Instead I said, "Wait a second", brought up the MMS, snapped a pic of the sweater and sent it to her in seconds. She got the pic, said it was perfect and I bought it. All without leaving the call.
Also, the headphones that come with the 3GS are outstanding in my opinion. More, the headphones also come with a microphone. So you can be listen to the Ipod part of the Iphone when a call comes in. You can pic up the call, and now the caller is talking to you in the headphones. Almost like in stereo.
It is a bit odd actually. After years of hearing a caller in one ear or the other, the sound is actually coming from the MIDDLE of your own head. Surreal really.
In conclusion, as I feel I have gushed enough about this, I will briefly state the pros and cons.
Pros: almost everything. Ipod, fast internet, thousands of free apps to help you do almost anything, great pictures, simple video, large screen, slim design, easy to do almost anything with it.
Cons: Battery life. It seems to eat up battery a bit faster than my Tilt. Not on calls really, but if you are playing games, or videos, or hitting the 3G a lot, it'll tear your battery up quick. On the plus side, it does recharge pretty quick.
Non-removable battery.
No tethering. This is the biggest step back from my Tilt. I used to surf with my laptop anywhere I had cell service. Now I HAVE to surf on my Iphone, which is okay, but there are many other uses for a full computer. Supposedly, AT&T is bringing out tethering after upgrading their network, but from all I have read, there will be an extra charge. Ish.
Data charge. Haven't we advanced far enough as a society yet that you shouldn't need to pay $30 per month for data to your phone? Why isn't this charge spread out to all cell-phones, thus making it cheaper for anyone to use data?
Wow. That is a really short list of cons.
Get the Iphone 3GS and make your life easier.
