The Bottom Line:
After purchasing a $3000 computer Apple said they could only recomend me getting (addit'l $$!) a mouse to avoid the problem with the G4 trackpad.
Using the PB G4 17" powerbook (bot 11/2003) my right hand has suffered tremendously with wrist pain. Since 1996 I used and still use an Apple PowerBook G3 15" wall street model and never had a problem with the trackpad, being fast and easy and precise, requiring minimal amount of movements to get to where I want to click, and never tiring. Not so with the G4 17" trackpad: after trying all adjustments, curser can be moved faster but once you get near the clicking point it will require at least two more finger moves on trackpad to reach the clicking item. I am not sure what the cause of this problem trackpad but it could have to do with the trackpad area being much larger and the screen being larger. I had Apple check it and they say there is nothing wrong with the trackpad and it's operation is normal. So why do I have a problem with my right wrist just very shortly after using the G4 trackpad for a couple of days? First it felt just tired and then more and more hurting. I barely type so it's not carpal tunnel syndrome, and never had a problem like this with my older G3 so easy to use.
