The Bottom Line:
A great machine, life without Windows is worth a try!
I have always used windows, so this was my first non-windows computer. I am one of those people who loves to buy new gadgets. Last year I bought an iPod and was using it with Windows. I was so very impressed with its build quality and design that I decided to see if the Apple computers were equally amazing. Shortly thereafter I saw the Steve Jobs address where this machine was unveiled and I decided that I had to try one.
Right out of the box I was amazed by the slim design and the attention the detail. The packaging was brilliant.
The included software was generous, however only a test drive of MS Office was included. Obviously it only worked for 30 days then you must purchase MS office if you want it, at a whopping price of between $400-$500.
The keyboard is the most comfortable I have ever used, the display is breathtaking. I often watch DVDs on it when traveling for business. The quality of sound and display make this a very pleasant experience.
My primary uses for this machine are mp3 storage and syncing with an iPod, digital photography, web browsing and as a replacement for a Windows desktop. In those areas the computer performs admirably. As mentioned above I watch DVDs when I travel (often) right in my hotel room. The display is quite amazing for that purpose.
A great machine, and it is very portable despite its huge display. I suspect many imitators in the Windows world will be watching the sales to see if it is worth doing on the other side.
