The Bottom Line:

The ipod touch is one of the most popular handlheld electronics known today. AS for some people the ipod touch is not just a handheld device for listening to mousic or playing games but rather a device for managing their business. I personally own an Ipod Touch first gen. and honestly don't think its all to great. When I fist got it i had some troubles connecting it to my Wifi. After many house of failed attempts it finally connected. Although it seemed all my troubles were over with that, I decided to try to download some of my music from itunes to my ipod touch. When i first connected my ipod my computer somehow thought my ipod was a camera. After opening itunes and finding all my music i wanted i clicked the 'apply' button to save the changes for the ipod for when you begin to sync it. Right as i hit the apply button my ipod went into sync mode. I thought that that meant it was already downloading the sangs. Wrong, it was making a backup of my ipod, Even though nothing was on my ipod. Many hours later it was finished. I got all my music on my ipod and began to get apps for it. The first issue i encountered with apps was the speed in which they download. Even with my 1Gb wifi device, it took over 15 minutes to download a single app. Perhaps it was just a really large app? Nope, the next app i downloaded was even smaller than that and it took 15 minutes. I checked to see if my wifi was running slow. Checked all my connections. Everything was running at 100% according to the mannuals. Turns out the ipod touch first gen. has a reletivly slow wifi connection speed. The wifi wasn't my only problem though.
After downloading an app the see's how fast you can tape i discovered that my brand new ipod touch had some touch sensativity issues. I looked online to see if there was anyway of fixing this. Turns out again that the ipod touch first gen. has issues with touch sensativity, and Apple plans to fix this issue for the new ipod touch second gen. But for the first gen. your pretty much screwed.
Overall the ipod touch first gen. is a mid grade electronic. yes it can be considered high grade due to the touch screen and wifi capabilities but all these do not work 100% correctly or efficiently.
Also the ipod touch first gen. was hundreds of USD more than the ipod touch second gen. brand new. Since the year is 2010 your best bet is to get the Ipod touch fourth gen. since it is only $175 USD direct from Apple and all the issues with the slow wifi/slow sync/delayed or unresponsive touch screen, are all fixed. Also the ipod touch fourth gen. comes with build in speakers unlike the first gen. ipod touch. But the ipod touch first gen. has a mini speaker for only sounds such as for the 'alarm clock', but the fourth gen. ipod touch has a built in speaker for music/alarm clock and more.
