The Bottom Line:
I 100% recommend this product to anyone, especially families, teens, and computer beginners.
I've had my Macbook for 3 years now, and it's still going strong. I have just now, after three years, had to replace the charger, but other than that it has had zero issues since I bought it. I've found it to be extremely maintenance free.
My favorite qualities of my Macbook are how durable it is and how little of an issue viruses are. My Macbook has been dropped down stairs, left in the rain, and even had candle wax spilled all over the keyboard and screen. It still looks relatively "unabused" and still works just as it did the day I received it in the mail. Viruses, which were a major issue with my previous computer, have no affected my Macbook in the slightest, and pop ups are minimal-rare even though I have no anti-pop up software installed.
Though the white looks attractive when it's new, I strongly recommend getting black as white yellows with age and dirt.
The only maintenance-type activity I've had to do with my Macbook is regular updates. Every 3-6 weeks or so your Macbook alerts you that there are updates to install. This can be inconvenient as you have restart your computer afterwards, however I've found that after ignoring these alerts for a month or two my computer lags and safari and iTunes start to malfunction. It really is worth the restart!
Macbooks are great family laptops as you have the option of setting multiple user profiles. Also, privacy and parental controls options are available. For instance, someone not listed as an admin cannot install new software onto the laptop. This is a great feature for families with preteens and teens.
The only thing I would complain about is that when it comes time to replace your charger, they are ridiculously expensive. I recently paid 79$ plus shipping to get a new charger. While they are durable and they have the magnetic feature for an easier hook-up, it is not worth 79$. And, even worse, this 79$ charger is the only option.
Overall, this is a wonderful laptop choice, and I would recommend it to anyone, especially families, teens, and computer beginners.
