If you are used to Office, don't buy this

Pros $40 cheaper than office for mac
Cons difficult to navigate for office users
Recommended it? No
The Bottom Line:  If you need programs with all the complex functions of Office and with easy navigability (similar to Office) do not buy this.

As a college student I have to write papers and make presentations. So I absolutely need a word processor, a program to make presentations on and another to make graphs on. I recently purchased my first Mac along with iWork, which I was told was a "Mac version of office." This is not true because there actually is an Office version for Mac. What the salesperson really meant is that iWork has three programs equivalent to Word, Powepoint and Excel called Pages, Numbers and Keynote.

For a person like myself with no prior experience with iWork, who is accustomed to using Microsoft Office (Word, Powerpoint and Excel) this product was a real headache. The layout is completely different than Office's. In Word many of the key functions have recognizable icons, that make it easier to remember where the different formatting functions are. On the contrary, I found that on Pages it is frustratingly time consuming to find all the formatting functions.

As a college student I found that this product did not meet my needs, especially Pages, which is the program that I have to use most frequently. Let me explain myself.

When I have to write papers and put in 30+ footnotes, I just do not have the time or the patience to figure out where the footnotes function is.  The same goes for headers, spacing, etc. Being used to the easily navigable Microsoft Office, really made me dislike iWork to the point that I threw it out and bought myself Office for Mac.

Perhaps for potential buyers who just want a word processor, presentation and graph program and don't really care much for the very specific formatting functions this product would be great. But as a college student I am telling you that you are much better off using Office for Mac instead of iWork.
