WHAT IS THE APEX AD-800?

A DVD/MP3/VCD/SVCD/CD/CD-R/CD-RW/HDCD player. (OK, I need some help with HDCD, anyone know what that is?) I would be surprised if there exists another DVD player near this price range that matches the AD-800's list of features.

This is my second Apex player and also my second progressive scan player. This player replaced a Toshiba 5109. That's right. What is known as the king of the hill in affordable P.S. DVD players is being replaced with an Apex.

The Apex AD-800 seems like a good deal. For $179 you get rare features like VCD, SVCD playback, CD-R, CD-RW, good MP3 playback, progressive scan...

Pros Progressive scan, multi format, all the gadgets

It seems that Apex has finally come around and added all the newest features to their DVD player. I bought the 703 series a month and a half ago and was reasonably happy with it. However, once I heard the 800 was out, I returned the 703 to get the 800.

Pros Cool Features, DTS/Dolby Decoder especially attractive.
Cons Sound Distorts during playback after pause, Karaoke not cool!

Pros Progressive Scan!! MP3, HDCD,Component out, Optic and Coax Digital audio out.
Cons Apex??.... Can't figure out how to fast forward or rewind from remote.

Cons no major CONS - Haven't had to use Customer Service, yet

This is my 2nd APEX DVD Player and I would recommend them to anyone looking to get extra features while saving some money.

Picture quality is excellent.

Sound needs to be raised on TV during playback (so what!!).

Pros Progressive Scan for 99 bucks
Cons Can no longer read DVD's after 35 minutes

I was real excited about replacing my 2 year old Apex with a spiffy new progressive scan Apex ad-800. I ordered it from Amazon for 99 bucks. I installed it and connected everything and....no color.

Pros True Progressive Scan 3:2 pulldown Cost is great
Cons I have heard about some reliablilty issues with Apex, but so far so good!
Recommended it? Yes

I recently purchased a HDTV with progressive scan. I then researched many progressive scan dvd players to complement my tv, and dollar for dollar this seems to be the best.

It is a true progressive scan dvd with 3:2 pulldown. It has composite, s-video, and component outputs.

Pros Plays DVDs easily, great picture, remote control easy to use.
Cons Broke in 8 months, some DVDs did not play properly (subtitles missing).
Recommended it? No

I bought this DVD player since it was a great price for a progressive scan DVD player. I was planning to get a digital TV later on but wanted to wait for the prices to drop.
