Cons Apex??.... Can't figure out how to fast forward or rewind from remote.
Recommended it? Yes
The Bottom Line:  I recommend this unit to anyone who is looking to save money in order to purchase an HDTV. Or just save in general.
About 2 months ago I purchased a High Definition Television. I loved my TV, but I did't have a high definition receiver nor did I have a progressive scan DVD player. I made it my goal to upgrade my current Apex AD660 with a progressive scan unit. I started looking at Sony, Panasonic, Toshiba, Phillips, and others, none quite what I was looking for, and none the price I was really wanting to pay.

I've always been very happy with my AD660 from Apex, but I never thought they made a highend unit. Then I read about the AD800. It was time to compare and research, and get some pricing. It turns out that this unit has everything I would ever want in a DVD player. The menu has options that I didn't know even existed. The audio options are astounding, I can set bass to go though the subwoofer or the front speakers from the player itself. You can set HDCD's to play in dolby pro logic or DTS your choice. Not to mention the Karaoke function, which is fun at parties I assume. If you ever used an Apex DVD player then you already know about the MP3 compatiblilty, to me a must.

!!UPDATE!! I've found some great things about this player and some not so great things about this player. First the great things, HDCD capability, I thought that was useless, but it really sounds great. Next the Audio options are alot of fun to play with, especially if you have speakers that are in different places in relation to where you are. You can setup different channels to delay timing, and you can even setup audio profiles for different movie and music types. Picture quality is outstanding! Overall the setup is easy and very user friendly, I think most people will enjoy setting this player up. Now the bad things, MP3 player on this model is not up to par with other Apex offerings. When you go from a 128bit MP3 to a 192bit MP3 the player must be stopped then the song must be reselected and then played again(a major annoyance!). The remote stinks, I find it to feel cheap and the button layout is not at all user friendly (or maybe I just think that cause I used to have the AD660 which is essentially the same remote but with a better button layout). Oh well that's all for now even though I have some dislikes and problems, I still think this is a great player!

I only paid $159 for this player and I'm really enjoying it so far. I will update this review as I use the product more.
