Ataway Animusic

Pros Wonderful animation and stupendous music.
Cons Could not really find one.
Recommended it? Yes
The Bottom Line:  I highly recommend this great music DVD.
Animusic a computer animation music video is a treat for your audio and visual senses. We discovered this gem while carousing our library catalog. When we finally where able to get the DVD and watch it we understood why it is so popular.

Animusic is a musical video but is unique and above all other music videos in my opinion. I would first like to stress the importance that this is computer animated. The visual parts are so realistic it would seem someone was just photographing the instruments playing. I am blown away by the realism in this DVD.

What does the DVD offer well it has 7 tracks of music. I will briefly describe them for you and mention which are my favorites though the whole disc is truly awesome. The first track is titled Future Retro. In this set you will see a rotating robot playing a large drum set, Laser beams some of which are playing a three neck electric guitar. The creator of animusic in the director's commentary discusses how the three neck electric guitar is the most complex instrument in the entire DVD. This first track will give you a good taste of what is to come.

Our second set offers Stick Figures. In this we have a 1 string instrument which a hammer bangs on to make the sounds. We also have a guitar, drum set and horns. This track has what I feel is a calypso beat to it. On this track at parts the music is done so well I could actually hear voices. The DVD has no vocals on it, but the music which actually is all synthesizers almost sounds like people singing.

Next we have Aqua Harp which is probably one of my favorites it really is hard to chose a favorite. This probably is the least complicated of all the tracks visually. All it has is a harp. It is very mellow music conducive for relaxing and meditating.

The fourth track is titled Drum Machine. Can you guess what this piece has in it? Did you answer percussion instruments you all are very smart. It has gears with hammers on them playing the drums. With the noise of the gears it sounded like a drum corps piece. You can hear people marching with the gear noise in the background of the drums.

The next offering is another of my favorites as well as my wife's and son's favorite. Pipe dreams have balls shooting out of pipes playing various string instruments as well as a xylophone. The xylophone is great. It looks like a flower and is one of the many visual masterpieces in the show.

The sixth track is called Acoustic curves. This is basically strings and percussion instruments lined up in a curved fashion. If I had to pick my least favorite part of this DVD this would be it.

Our last track is called Harmonic Voltage. This has a new age sound with lasers going, drums playing and guitars strumming. I can only say the finally is equal to the finally that will be occurring at the firework displays we will see on the 4th of July.

Wayne Little was the producer/director and was basically the man behind this form of video. He is extremely talented and does a great job putting all this together. His partner David Croginale was responsible for the design details and the principle modeling. I must say these two gentlemen are true genius in their field.

I would like to give one more tip of advice for you before watching this DVD. Make sure you are awake because you will not want to miss any of the action in the pieces. The music is so wonderful that you can just listen to the DVD. However, if you are tired you very well might fall asleep.

The DVD also has some bonus features such as the solo cam. In this you can listen to the various offerings and zero in on only one instrument at a time. By pressing the up and down arrow keys on your remote you can change the angle of the camera and view a different section of the set. Also there is a director's commentary as well as a section showing the developments of each track.

I highly recommend this DVD. I am not usually a fan of music videos. However, this show truly excited me as well as the rest of my family.

I also suggest you check out dianapinions review on this which is much better than my own found at http://www.epinions.com/content_187121438340
