The Bottom Line:
It's not too late to get this never ending story.
I got this game when it first came out, and I was really surprised. This game tried something no other game did before, and it kind of made a whole new genre. Controlling a character and just living in a neighborhood while paying off the rent and making friends is such a good idea for a video game. I usually like good plots and open ended games so this game caught my eye. There really isn't a plot but the object is just to live and accomplish your own daily goals. The graphics may not be great, but you will get used to them, and this isn't a game that really requires good graphics, and it sort of fits with the walking and talking animals. The scoring went like this.
Graphics-7: The graphics in Animal Crossing are satisfactory, but if they were outstanding it wouldn't really do much more for us.As long as you can see what is going on, we're cool.
Gameplay-8: At first the gameplay is fresh and original, but after a while the fellow townspeople start saying the same things and ask the same errands. The ability to fish, dig fossils, and catch insects is what saves this game from having stale gameplay. Players can work for many hours straight trying to catch just one fish, which is part of a list of 40 that you must find. Some of the things you collect only come out during certain seasons too, and time there passes as it does here.
Sound-7: There is nothing really to be amazed at sound-wise, but there also aren't any sound effects or music tracks that require complaining. The sound fits solidly into what is going on, and there are even sound effects for times when characters are angry and steam comes out of their ears, but these sound effects are squeaky.
Lasting Appeal-10: This game never ends. You never die, never get robbed, or any of that. You will be playing for a very long time as you run errands, fish, catch bugs, and participate in events that are posted on the daily bulletin. If you get bored of it after 5 or so months, trust me, you'll be back.
Overall-8.0: Animal Crossing is a great game that will keep you playing, but even though you always will have stuff to do, you may find it hard to find the motivation to do some objectives.
