Explore the online world of Rubi-Ka
Pros
innovative sci fi setting and game mechanics
Cons
still has some disconnect issues...
Recommended it?
Yes
The Bottom Line:
first online mmorpg to be set in a sci fi setting, breaking the limits of graphics and sounds- truly an amazing game worthy of buying.
Strap yourselves in. This is the best thing that happened to online computer games since online computer games were invented. I am biased, as I have been watching the development of this game like a hawk and scrutinizing its every detail.
If you like online games and have played some you will know that it can be an experience to remember. It can also be highly addicting, if you ask anyone into Everquest they will tell you to play with caution. You will find yourself still going after days and days.. You can assume the life of a person in an online world and interact with that world just like real life.
Only cooler.
Now, what makes this so different from all other online games out there is pretty obvious. Where the other online games out there are fantsy settings with elves and fairies and mythical magical creatures, Anarchy Online is set in the future. It is a cyberpunk/post holocaust type setting (depending on where in the world you are) and it is set in a futuristic mining world where there is a conflict with Omni Tech , the local corporation that is mining the notum from the world, and the rebels that oppose this corporation for their own respective reasons.
The rebels live in the wasteland and are somewhat reminiscent of Mad Max characters, while the corporation people look somewhat like a star wars-type of appearance. The conflict is modelled after all of the latest economic based conflicts in the news nowadays, and there are a lot of politics involved, ****** you would certainly have to read the website and several related bulletin boards like stratics, for example, to fully understand the complexity of the story line.
Robots. It is about time we have robots out there. I love robots, and I love blowing them into little peices. It is important for a growing boy to kill many , many robots. One cannot do this in a fantsy setting. There are plenty of faulty I-34 robots wandering around out there that need to be terminated. Help yourself.
Guns. All kinds of them. Little tiny sleek laser guns to big giant rusty pump shotguns. Machine guns, laser swords. You name it. It has all that stuff to keep you happy.
Tattoos. Oh yeah, they have tattoos. And all kinds of space-looking armor. And once you go through the creation process for a character you will see without a doubt there is a lot of freedom of individuality in the appearance of your character. Tons of different faces and hairstyles, a choice of height and weight appearance from small to medium to large.
There are 4 races, that cover the myriad of types of characters you would want to play. From the little, sneaky guys to the big dumb strong guys. They explain these different races by the corporation manipulating the DNA to create more efficient workers. So at least they make an attempt at rationalizing the existance of these not-exactly-human people that you can play.
The monsters are explained in much the same way. They are genetic experiments gone awry, and they are just abandoned out in the wasteland to die. Except some of them didn't die... Someof those races they created proliferated, so watch out for the various munsters in the wilds. They will eat you, or worse. Lookout for the roller rats in the beginning, they are highly aggressive. They will attack you if you get near them, trust me on that one.
So take my word for it. You will love this game. Go to www.anarchyonline.com and take a look. It's the first sci-fi online game, so you can be a part of history in the making, as well as have a really really good time.
