I have just recently purchased a new computer. Being stationed overseas in Germany I am limited to whatever type of computers and computer accessories the Post Exchange happens to carry at the time. In my case it is the Compaq line of computers. The computers they sell do not come bundled; that is to say they do not come complete with CPU, monitor, etc. After I purchased my new computer (which will be the subject of another e-pinion) I began shopping for a monitor. I wanted one that would fit not only my needs but my budget as well.
There were two brands of monitors, LG and Compaq. Of course I wanted to stay with Compaq since that was the type of computer I purchased. I am not one to go for the biggest and most expensive so the 17? and 19? ones were ruled out. So was the $1700 new flat-screen monitor. That left but one choice, the $238 (on sale, regular price was $298), 15? (13.8? viewable) MV520 monitor. It has everything I need. It has a built-in microphone. It came with JBL Pro speakers. (Personally, the JBL speakers are what sold me.) It has 1024x768 resolution that is crystal clear. I love to play flight simulator type games and I needed a monitor that provided clear, sharp images. This monitor did not let me down. The monitor controls are on a menu, which is viewable on-screen. This way I know what I am adjusting and how much I am adjusting it. The viewing coupled with the JBL speakers brings my flight simulator games to life. My wife is constantly telling me turn down my games because I have them turned up to get that ?real life? feeling. And I do not even have to turn it up that loud. The bass is excellent enough that I have my speakers turned up only one notch (the volume level is also viewable on-screen). I even use the CD player on the computer to play my music CD?s instead of my stereo because the speakers rival those of my house speakers. The sound is that good.
All in all I am positive that my $238 were well spent. Even if it were not on sale, and if I knew then what I know now about the quality of this monitor, I would have purchased it. And I recommend you do the same.
